Chapter 1586

    ?Chapter 1586:

Her gaze swept over Brendon—sharp, cold, and utterly unforgiving. “I don’t care if this was an ident or an attempt on her life. I’m only warning you—don’t y so smart that you end up losing everything you have.”

Brendon opened his mouth to respond, but before he could speak, two police officers entered.

Within moments, Katie was escorted away, and both Ynda and Robin—witnesses to the scene—were taken to give their statements.

Christina watched them go, her eyes narrowing with a faint, dangerous glint.

She turned and made her way back into the hospital room, her eyes falling on Bethel’s motionless form.

Lowering herself beside the bed, Christina allowed her weariness to show in the faint ck of her features as she wrapped her fingers tenderly around the old woman’s delicate hand.

“Bethel… you have to wake up,” she whispered. “You still haven’t seen me get married—or have children. Didn’t you say you wanted to know what my baby would look like? I’ll get married this year, alright? And next year, I’ll try to have a baby. But you have to get through this. You can’t go back on your word.”

Christina lowered her head, resting her cheek against Bethel’s frail hand. Tears welled up and spilled silently, soaking into the old woman’s wrinkled skin.

And as if in answer—Bethel’s fingers gave the faintest, trembling twitch.

Christina heard the door creak open, followed by footsteps—steady, deliberate, unlike those of a casual visitor.

Her shoulders stiffened. She released Bethel’s hand and rose to her feet, her expression cooling into wary alertness. Before she could make out the figurepletely, a man stepped into view.

“Miss Jones, Mr. Scott sent us to ensure your safety,” the broad-shouldered man said respectfully.

Before he even finished, Christina’s phone began to vibrate.

Dn’s name shed across the screen.

“I heard what happened to Mrs. Dawson,” Dn said as soon as she answered. “Stay with her for now. I’ve posted guards outside the room—so you can finally rest a bit.”

“Thank you, Dn.” A faint warmth bloomed in Christina’s chest. No matter what happened, his first thought was always of her.

“Then maybe you could thank me in person?” His voice carried that familiar, teasing gentleness.

“You’re… nearby?” Christina asked, her voice dropping to a murmur.

“I’m right next door. I miss you, Chrissie.” Every second apart felt too long—he wanted nothing more than to hold her and ease her exhaustion.

“Wait for me,” she said softly.

Ending the call, Christina stepped out of the ward. Outside, five more guards stood at attention along the hallway.

“Stay here and don’t let anyone in,” she instructed, her tone firm. “No doctors, no nurses—no one.”
