?Chapter 1576:
The corner of his mouth had barely twitched in contempt when Ynda’s soft, anxious voice cut through the tension.
“Bethel’s been in there for so long. Do you think… the surgery will be all right?” Ynda ventured, her voiceced with false concern. “I’m so worried about her… Christina is only trained to treat animals. How can she possibly perform human brain surgery? I just…”
“What did you just say? Who is operating?” Joselyn spun toward her, certain she had misheard.
Christina was a veterinarian. She treated pets. How could she possibly be operating on a human brain?
Ynda’s voice trembled as she lowered her head, pretending to be too frightened to continue. She peeked at Brendon before curling into his embrace.
She had said it intentionally. Once Joselyn exploded, the chaos would only benefit her.
“Out with it! Have you lost your tongue?” Joselyn snapped.
“Why are you shouting at her?” Brendon snapped, pulling Ynda closer. “Christina insisted on doing the surgery herself.”
“It… it’s really her?” Joselyn felt the room sway. “An animal doctor operating on a person? Have you all lost your minds? Why didn’t anyone stop her? I’m going to find the director. If anything happens to Bethel, I’ll hold every single person in this hospital responsible!”
Joselyn was about to storm off in search of the hospital director when Katie caught her by the arm, holding her back. “Mom, please… let’s wait a little. Maybe Grandma will pull through,” Katie pleaded, her voice breaking as tears streamed down her cheeks.
“I don’t want anything to happen to your grandmother either, but how can you trust a veterinarian? Have you all lost your minds? How could you allow her to perform surgery on your grandmother?” Joselyn snapped, trembling with fury. If this operation failed, her daughter’s entire life would be destroyed.
“She insisted on doing the surgery herself—and she even hit us,” Katie cried, rubbing at her tear-streaked face.

Joselyn’s eyes dropped to the red marks on their cheeks. At first, she had assumed Robin had struck them in a rage. Now, she realized it must have been Christina.
There was a time when Joselyn had wanted Christina back as her daughter-inw. Now, she saw her for what she truly was: impulsive, reckless, and utterly out of her depth. Such a woman was better off gone for good.
She had overestimated herpletely. Christina was rash and thoughtless, never considering the consequences.
What kind of lunatic barged into an operating room to operate on Bethel? What could she possibly gain from risking a murder charge?
“What’s going to happen to Katie if Christina ends up killing her grandmother?” Ynda’s voice cut in, trembling with apparent concern.
Katie’s face turned ghostly pale. “That won’t happen. Grandma’s going to be fine,” she said quickly, though she didn’t sound convinced.
“But Christina’s a veterinarian—she—” Ynda began, only to be silenced by Robin’s furious outburst.
“Shut up! If you say one more word against Christina, you’ll regret it!” he barked, eyes zing.
