Chapter 1542

    ?Chapter 1542:

But the memory of Dn once risking his life for Christina rose like a bitter tide, driving Vickie to snipe. Jealousy wed inside her chest.

Dn attracted everyone around him effortlessly, yet he barely nced her way, despite their lifelong acquaintance. The fact that he paid more attention to other men than to her made her simmer with resentment. Was she truly so unremarkable?

“So, what brings you by?” Christina asked, her smile still pleasant.

“I just felt we connected so well the other day,” Vickie replied, forcing a smile while scanning the room discreetly.

Wasn’t Robin supposed to be staying here too? Where was he? It was curious: Dn’s current lover and his ex, living under the same roof. Shouldn’t that lead to drama? Yet she’d heard Robin and Christina went way back and were still friends.

That two women could remain friends while entangled with the same man only proved how irresistible he was.

Still, no matter who Dn favored now, Vickie was determined to be the sole upant of his heart, so he’d never look at anyone else again.

“What are you looking for?” Christina asked, a knowing curve on her lips. She’d guessed Vickie hade hoping to find Robin.

“Nothing,” Vickie said, ufortable at being caught. After a brief pause, she spoke again. “I’m throwing a masquerade ball in a few days. I’d be honored if you came.”

“I’ll see when the timees. I might not be able to make it,” Christina responded calmly.

But Vickie couldn’t let her miss it—she was already nning to humiliate Christina at the party.

“Pleasee,” Vickie pressed, sweetening her tone. “I’ve just moved back and don’t know many people—just you and Chloe, really. She’sing. Why not bring a few friends? It’ll be fun.”

Beneath the friendliness, Vickie was scheming. She especially hoped Christina would bring Robin. Then she could lure them into apromising situation, ruin their reputations, and make Dn cut them both off. Two birds with one stone—perfect.

“Hmm…” Christina frowned slightly, as if considering.

Christina didn’t buy Vickie’s act for a second. From their first meeting, she’d sensed Vickie’s strong dislike.

“Come on, Christina,” Vickie pleaded in a sugary voice. “If you and your friends don’t show, the party will be dull.”

After another pause, Christina finally nodded. “All right, I’lle. I’ll probably ask Robin to join me.”

“Oh, you mean Robin Miller?” Vickie feigned ignorance.

“Yes.” Christina replied. A faint, knowing smile touched her lips. Go ahead, put on your act, she thought.

No matter how Vickie tried to hide it, her dislike always seeped through. She was too eager, too transparent—her hatred leaked from every word and gesture.

Vickie forced a bright, artificial smile. “Honestly, I haven’t seen Robin in ages. When he first came to the Scott family as a boy, he and Dn fought constantly. They were like little rivals.”

Hearing Vickie refer to Dn so casually made Christina frown slightly in annoyance.
