?Chapter 1428:
“Dr. Emmett will handle everything. There’s no need to worry,” Dn said softly.
He didn’t want Christina rushing off to Malvren just yet.
Uncertainty lingered—he still couldn’t pinpoint who the real intended victim was. Letting Christina fly to Malvren right now felt like walking her straight into the lion’s den.
“I know you’re worried. If something happens to Morse, you’ll never forgive yourself.” Christina’s fingers slipped into his, her tone calm but full of concern.
Morse meant the world to Chloe. If he didn’t make it, Christina would feel every bit of that loss alongside her.
Just imagining Chloe shattered by grief made her heart twist painfully. She couldn’t bear the thought of watching Chloe fall apart.
Dn tried to reassure her, saying, “Let’s try not to panic. Even if we went, there’s nothing we could do except get in the way. Dr. Emmett is the best—let’s put our trust in him.”
The decision weighed heavily on him. Even knowing Christina’s real identity as King, he couldn’t let her step into danger—no matter what he owed Morse, who had taken a bullet for his sister.
His conscience twisted. Torn between gratitude for Morse and fear for Christina’s safety, he held his ground.
A hush fell over the room. Christina knew her presence wouldn’t tip the scales. Right now, staying put was the only option.
“But if Morse doesn’t make it, Chloe’s whole world will fall apart. He nearly died saving her,” Christina said.
The pain in her eyes made Dn act. He wrapped his arms around her and held her close.
“We’ll wait for news from Dr. Emmett before making any decisions, okay?” he murmured, hoping to calm her spiraling thoughts.
For a moment, Christina wavered, then managed to say, “Alright.”
Still, worry gnawed at her. Rest wouldn’te.

The fact that this was about Dn and Chloe made it impossible for her to turn away.
Had it been anyone else, she might have epted whatever happened—believing that everyone must travel their own road. Neither of them managed to sleep.
Staring at the ceiling until dawn, it was five, maybe six in the morning, when news from Malvren finally arrived.
Morse’s surgery had gone well, and now he only needed close observation during recovery. If everything continued smoothly, he would soon be discharged.
“Get some rest. I’ve already arranged for someone to watch. Everything will be fine,” Dn said gently.
“Alright,” Christina replied, her voice soft with relief. It felt as if a heavy weight had finally lifted from her chest.
As long as Morse was safe, Chloe wouldn’t be left drowning in heartbreak.
No one ever knew what tomorrow might bring—that thought made Christina cherish the people beside her even more. She tightened her grip on Dn’s hand.
Feeling her hand in his, Dn’s fingers closed around hers, firm and reassuring.
