Chapter 1400:
Their investigation revealed that it could weaken anyone who inhaled it, sapping all strength from the body.
“You found out?” Christina asked, a flicker of surprise in her eyes beforeprehension dawned.
“Yes,” Dn said quietly, confirming what his people had uncovered.
Christina was silent for a moment before she finally exined, “It’s a kind of toxin. When someone inhales it, it weakens their muscles and drains their strength. It’s not fatal—it fades after a while once the effect wears off.”
She had created and stored the only batch herself, and it was never meant to spread beyond her control. In the wrong hands, it could easily be a weapon for harm. The small supply she possessed was reserved for her own use—including the powder she had once given to Davina.
“Alright,” Dn said softly, tightening his arms around her as he breathed in the faint scent of her hair.
Christina tilted her head slightly, a teasing glint in her eyes. “Aren’t you curious about where I got those toxins?”
“If you want to tell me, you will. Everyone’s entitled to their secrets. Even in love, some things deserve to stay private,” Dn replied evenly.
Though honesty was the backbone of any rtionship, some truths were better left unspoken. He respected Christina’s boundaries and never pressed her to reveal more than she was ready to share. When she was ready, she would share more. For now, her silence was reason enough.
Christina tightened her hold on him, saying nothing. His quiet respect, his patience, and his willingness to let her be herself—those were the things that drew her closer.
And in that quiet moment, she knew with certainty that Dn was the one she could depend on, no matter what came next.
At the hotel, Bain pped Jordy on the shoulder and said warmly, “You saved Ophelia, Jordy.”
“Exactly! If you hadn’t been there, things could’ve gone really wrong,” Gerry added, his tone full of admiration.
?????????? ???????? ???????????????? ???? g???????ν?????????????
Jordy shifted awkwardly, a faint flush creeping up his neck. Their praise made him uneasy.
He had sworn to Christina that he would keep the truth buried, never letting a word slip. It was a heavy secret—and because it involved his sister, holding it in gnawed at him constantly.
“As long as Ophelia’s safe, that’s all that matters,” Jordy said quietly, forcing a small smile.
Bain’s sharp eyes lingered on him. Something about Jordy’s calm demeanor felt off. He was acting differently than usual, and Bain couldn’t shake the feeling that he was hiding something.
“Are you keeping something from us?” Bain asked suddenly.
Jordy’s heart skipped a beat, unease crawling up his spine. Being a sharp-minded businessman, Bain likely picked up on the subtle shift in Jordy’s demeanor.
Gerry blinked in confusion, ncing between them. “Jordy, are you hiding something from us?”
