They feared these stockpiles would be discovered, and they feared Madison would silence them after the deed.
Ulrik watched the dungeon door m shut.
Even if Ellen and his men breached the courtyard, locating the entrance was no sure thing–they might perish here unnoticed.
Thatst intruder must’ve been Lance, exposing Madison’s secrets before fleeing.
A surge of frustration rose in Ulrik.
“Kill them!” Madison bellowed.
“What are you waiting for? If they live, you all die! It’s high treason worthy of beheading!”
The wolf guards roared, their juniper pheromones boiling like a wave, and charged, their wolf ws glinting cold on the hilts.
Ulrik knew his four teammates were outmatched.
His cedar pheromones coalesced, and he took the lead, ws bared.
A ng rang out as ws met, searing pain shooting through his palm, leaving deep scratches.
He refocused, pupils narrowing to slits.
Several tough opponentsy ahead; carelessness could cost him his life.
Cedar pheromones taut as a bowstring formed a protective barrier around him.
“Futile!” he shouted mid–fight. “The Capital Guard and Royal Patrol are en route! You’re pawns in a tyrant’s game!” His wolf tail swept behind him, aiding his

“Kill Ulrik first!” Madison’s ebony pheromones erupted in fury.

Fear was useless.

Madison, ruthless and unyielding, would fight to the death. Lycan blood kept her spine unbroken; she’d never back down.
Her sole thought: if she escaped today, she’d stop at nothing to kill Lance and Adide.
Ebony pheromonesced with blinding hatred nearly solidified into knives.
Ulrik was surrounded, juniper pheromones forming an airtight cage.
The other Capital Guard members, wounded and bleeding, grew weaker.
Though he’d managed to injure three foes, leaving deep gashes, the remaining wolf guards focused their assault on him, nearly crushing him with their juniper
waves.
Ulrik realized he might die here today, which ignited a desperate courage.
Cedar pheromones surged, reflecting a lone wolf’s resolve.
Lately, amid family stresses, he’d honed hisbat skills,
Now, fighting like a cornered wolf, his pupils zed with primal fire. Each attack tore through the air, showcasing his ferocity.
His wolf cars, helmet–bound, twitched with alertness, catching every sound in search of an opening,
Meanwhile, the infiltrators, along with Mr. Watkins and Ellen from the Royal Patrol, had stormed other dungeon sections.
Inside, they found the Cassius family of four and seven or eight women–some mad, others ill.

At the sight of the Cassius family, Ellen’s expression darkened. “Escort them out immediately and reunite them with thedies. The Capital Guard and wolf warriors are guarding the area–it’s secure,” he ordered.
In the adjacentrge cell, all the prisoners were disabled women–some limb–torn, others disfigured or tongue–severed.
Many wounds were grotesquely untreated, festering and maggot–infested.
The Capital Guard entered and, horrified by the sight, struggled to reconcile it with Madison’s mansion. They likened the scene to hell itself.
Steeling themselves against the overwhelming stench, they escorted each woman out one by one.
In the main courtyard, Priest Abram and the other priests continued their prayer to the Moon Goddess.
As more Capital Guard and Royal Patrol members arrived, whispers arose about an escting number of infiltrators.
Severaldies, led by Sadi, grew frantic to leave but were stopped by Priest Abram, who uncharacteristically snapped, “You’vee this far–see it through. Take your
seats.”
Terrified and defiant, Sadi whined, “Why won’t you let us leave if there are infiltrators? This is madness! Your so–calledpassion is nothing but murder!”
The President of the Royal Elder Council remarked coolly, “The Capital Guard and Royal Patrol are here. What’s there to fear? Look at Maya–she’s as calm as can be.”
Maya, however, was far from calm.
Years alongside Germain had made her privy to his ns and aware of what Madison hid in her dungeon.
If discovered, it would spell disaster.
