Third Person’s POV
s
Maya forced a smile and said, “If all of you aren’t afraid, then why should we be? The Capital Guard is handpicked from the valiant Ironthorn Army; they’re certainly not ipetent.”
Mrs. Voss said, “In that case, we’ll leave the catching of infiltrators to them and continue with our prayers.”
No sooner had the guests been calmed than a man carrying a child of four or five, followed by a pregnant woman leading a child of eight or nine, hurried over under the escort of the Capital Guard.
Someone recognized them and gasped, “Aren’t they the missingdy and children from the Davidson family? I’ve seen them before–what are they doing at Madison’s mansion?”
“We were kidnapped and brought here,” Cassius’s mate, Neel, said with a pale face, clearly traumatized, her eyes still swollen.
Her legs gave way, and she knelt on the ground.
the
Abigail quickly helped her up. “Come, sit on the chair.”
“Thank you,” Neel said weakly. Arethusa came over to assist, and together they helped her to a chair.
“Why were you kidnapped and brought to Madison’s mansion? What’s the reason?” everyone wondered, their curiosity piqued but their tongues tied.
The olderdies present, upon seeing Cassius’s face, felt a jolt of recognition.
Since Cassius often traveled and rarely intersected with thesedies in the capital, few knew his features.
His sudden appearance from Madison’s mansion on the eve of the Moon Newborn Festival sent a shiver through the room.
But it also jogged their memories of old events.

Cassius’s hair and beard were disheveled, yet he still managed a bow. “Alpha Bentley is my cousin. I was abducted a few days ago while leaving the city and brought here. The olderdies, who knew the history, sighed softly.
Before more questions could be asked, another group arrived–this time, all women and girls, escorted by the Capital Guard.
The stench that preceded them was overwhelming.
Two of them were incoherent and frantic, rushing to grab fruit from the long table and stuffing it into their mouths, clearly starving.
Others were brought in and could only lie on the ground, their appearances gaunt and bloodless, indicating long–term illness.
As the guests puzzled over the neers‘ identities, yet another group arrived, this time emitting an even more nauseating odor, reminiscent of rotting flesh.
Sadi quickly covered her nose with a handkerchief and retreated to a corner.
The priests opened their eyes in shock at the sight of the maimed women being carried in. “Goodness me,” they eximed.
Everyone present, despite their kindness, felt anger bubble up at the tragic scene.
Thedies gasped and instinctively recoiled.
Abigail covered her mouth and nose and, along with several elderdies, stepped forward to assess the situation.
Upon seeing the gruesome wounds, Abigail’s face turned ashen, and she urgently cried out, “Send for help immediately! Get these women to a hospital!”
But most people simply fled–the sight and stench were too revolting, and the scene deeply disturbing.
“Where are the wolf doctors? The wolf doctors!” someone shouted.

Arethusa rushed out and grabbed an omega from Madison’s mansion. “Find the wolf doctor now!”
The omegas, tasked with reception and service in the main courtyard, were terrified.
They had no knowledge of the basement dungeon or its upants.
They recognized some of the people being brought out but not all.
Each individual was emaciated, either injured or disabled.
At Arethusa’s cry, the omegas instinctively scrambled to find the wolf doctor.
Thesedies, ustomed to having omegas fuss over the slightest scratch, were now paralyzed by the horror of the situation, too scared to approach.
One woman with a broken leg was extremely weak, unable even to lift herself.
Lying on the ground, she scanned her surroundings and cried out in a mix of wailing andughter, “Are you finally here to kill me? Give me a quick death! Please, just end it!”
Her cries, ced with maniacalughter, sent shivers down everyone’s spine–a blend of terror and heartache.
Mrs. Kell bent down and grasped the woman’s stick–thin hand.
“It’s over now, it’s over,” she soothed gently.
The woman’s stench was overwhelming, yet Mrs. Kell seemed oblivious.
She even brushed aside the matted hair covering the woman’s face and tenderly stroked her cheek. “It’s all in the past now.”
Perhaps it had been ages since the woman had been touched so kindly or heard such a gentle voice.
After a moment of stupor, she burst into heart–wrenching sobs, her cries drowning out all the tension and menace of Madison’s mansion.
