Ellen approached the west courtyard with his men. Finding no intruders, he suggested to Madison, “Princess, please retreat to your room for safety. Leave the intruders to us.”
Madison’s fury red upon seeing Ellen.
She firmly declined, “No need. Leave at once. My mansion is guarded by wolf warriors–your presence is unwee.”
“Princess, the intruders are highly skilled. Our wolf warriors may struggle to hold them off,” Ellen urged.
“Absurd!” Madison snapped. “My wolf warriors can handle a few intruders. Leave now, or I’ll file a formalint about your unauthorized intrusion into my mansion tomorrow.”
Inside the basement dungeon, Lance had already heard the chaos above.
He opened his cell door and swiftly ascended, unlocking the dungeon entrance.
With a shout of “Intruders here!” he drew attention to the location.
As Ellen and Madison argued, Lance’s scream cut through the air. Ellen immediately responded, “Comints can wait. Thedies‘ safetyes first.”
He led his men toward the source of the scream.
Lance had opened three of the four entrances and now rushed to the west courtyard.
Noticing Madison’s pale, resolute face, he knew this entrance was critical.

entrance.
“Lance, it’s you!”
Madison gasped, shock and anger flooding her as he disappeared inside.
Lance hesitated not a moment. Kicking open the dungeon door, he plunged into the darkness.
Madison, beside herself with rage, roared, “Stop him! Kill him before he leaves the dungeon alive!”
The wolf guards stumbled in pursuit.
Ulrik and his team arrived shortly after, learning the intruder had entered the dungeon. Without hesitation, they followed suit.
Madison lunged to intercept, bellowing, “No one advances! Anyone who step forward will die!”

Lance reached the dungeon first. It was pitch–ck inside.
Using a lighter, he ignited a wallmp.
It cast a weak light, yet it was enough to reveal the entire dungeon.
Rows of weapons and armor stood in perfect order.
Bundles of arrows leaned against the walls, and several crossbows rested nearby.
In the far corner, sealed barrels were stacked high.

Even throughyers of cloth and wax, the sharp tang of gunpowder seeped out.
No other lights burned near those barrels–only the faint glow from the entrance reached them.
Lance turned as wolf guards arrived.
Their shock at the sight of the well–stocked dungeon froze them momentarily.
Lance swiftly incapacitated several guards. Ulrik, leading the Capital Guard reinforcements, entered just as Lance spotted him.
In the dim glow, Ulrik’s recognition of Lance caused a split–second hesitation.
Lance seized the opportunity, darting up the stairs and vanishing from the dungeon.
Ulrik stood rooted to the spot, stunned by the sight before him.
After a deep breath, he and his team exchanged nces.
“Find Ellen!” Ulrikmanded. “Mr. Watkins from the Royal Patrol is here too- track them down!”
The dungeon door mmed shut
Madison descended, sword in hand, her dress hiked up for mobility. She poised the de at the Capital Guard members attempting to flee. “No one leaves,” she hissed.
The guards retreated step by step.
Madison entered the dungeon and coldly ordered the wolf guards, “Kill them.”
The Capital Guard, including Ulrik, totaled five men. Facing nearly thirty wolf guards, they were heavily outnumbered.
Though the wolf guards were no match for Lance, they were more than sufficient to overpower Ulrik and his team.
Drawing their des, the wolf guards advanced on the five Capital Guard
members.
