?Chapter 2983:
A weekter, Colleen was about to be discharged from the hospital. The doctor gave her new prescriptions, set up her follow-up schedule, and sent her home to recover.
Early that morning, Louise and Ronald pulled into the hospital’s underground garage.
Louise stepped out first and, ncing across several spaces, caught sight of Brady making his way to his car. The sight made her frown a little.
She had noticed Brady’s routineing by every morning and evening, always timing it to avoid running into her.
Once Ronald parked the car, he said, “Come on, let’s head up.”
“Hold on a second.”
Louise stared after Brady, lost in thought.
“What are you looking at?” Ronald asked curiously, following his wife’s gaze.
“Isn’t that Brady? Colleen’s…”

“Yeah.” Louise nodded. “You head up and keep Colleenpany. I’ll go talk to him.”
“What? But—”
Ronald didn’t get the chance to argue. Louise was already striding toward Brady.
Brady reached his car, opened the door, and was about to climb in.
“Brady.”
Brady lifted his head when he heard her voice, the look in his eyes a jumble of confusion and worry. “Mrs. Hayes.”
“Well.” Louise nodded and asked inly, “Do you have a minute? Can we talk?”
Brady grew even more uneasy. He had no idea what Louise wanted to discuss, but since she was Colleen’s mother, he had no choice but to agree. “Alright.”
“Let’s go, then.”
Neither of them said much. They ended up at the hospital’s coffee shop, sitting across the table in silence.
Louise watched Brady closely, her eyes missing nothing. He looked a lot like his sister, Hadley, and there was no denying he was a striking young man.
“Have some coffee, Mrs. Hayes.”
“Sure.”
Louise lifted her cup and took a sip. “You know about Colleen’s condition, don’t you?”
Brady straightened in his seat, posture stiff and tense.
Worried she’d get the wrong idea, Brady quickly exined, “My sister mentioned it to me. I haven’t spoken to Colleen in ages.”
Louise caught his meaning, lips curving with a touch of humor. “You think I’ll be upset? Then why are you here now?”
She arched an eyebrow and continued, “You’re not here just to mock Colleen after everything that’s happened, are you?”
“No!” The blood drained from Brady’s face as he shook his head. “That’s not why I’m here!”
Louise didn’t let up. “Then what is it?”
Brady squeezed his hands together, nervous. “All I wanted was to see her. I just wanted to spend some time with her…”
He couldn’t bring himself to tell Louise he wanted to take care of Colleen.
