    Eric’s lips curled faintly, almost like a smile, his voice low and rough as he said, “Let’s prove it.”


    Ellis gave no clear response. He listened quietly as Eric continued, “If it turns out Hadley cares more for you than me, then I’ll step aside.”


    His voice grew heavier, carrying the weight of his courage and resolve.


    “From then on, I won’t interfere with you two, and I won’t give you or the Gomez family any more trouble.” He shifted his gaze back to Ellis. “In the same way, if Hadley values me more than you, then please let her go, Ellis. Don’t keep dragging this out. And I promise not to cause any more problems for you or the Gomez family. How about that?”

    “So, what do you think?” Eric clenched his jaw, a look of grim resolve on his face. “Well, Ellis, are you going to say yes or not?”


    If Ellis refused, Eric was prepared to force the issue. That was his greatest strength.


    Ellis was speechless. He frowned, reying Eric’s words over and over in his mind. His family stood on one side. Hadley stood on the other.

    Well… Eric furrowed his brow, a faint smile tugging at his lips. “Hadley isn’t in Srixby at the moment. Let’s not bother her while she’s working. Once she’s back, I’ll let you know.”


    Ellis nodded and said, “Alright.”


    “Good.”


    Both men rose at the same time. Eric motioned for Ellis to leave first. “Take care, Ellis.”


    Ellis nodded in response and turned to leave.


    Once Ellis was out the door, Xander came in right after him.


    “Made it just in time.” Eric gestured toward him. “Contact Hadley’s assistant and keep me posted on her schedule.”


    “Understood.”


    “One more thing…” Eric narrowed his eyes.
