    Ellis tensed up, staring at Eric’s smug face, which held a trace of mockery and scorn. The urge to talk back red up almost instantly.


    “Think hard before you say another word!” Eric cut him off, his eyes narrowing with intensity. “This isn’t the time to pick a fight with me just to prove a point! Open your eyes. You need to see things as they really are.”


    A faint smirk tugged at Eric’s lips.


    “Or maybe let me put it this way. Even if you’re ready to lose it all for Hadley—if your family stands in your way, do you honestly believe you could go through with it?”


    Ellis couldn’t get a word out. There was no way he could. His family would never go along with it.


    A moment of clear thought settled over him. By what right could he ask for such a steep price from his family?


    Eric, watching the subtle shifts in Ellis’s expression, didn’t need to press further to know what was running through his mind. He simply smiled and waited, watching to see what Ellis might say next.

    “You think that’s out of line?” Eric widened his eyes in mock astonishment. With an earnest look, he added, “Then let me ask you: is it right for you to use work as an excuse to steal my wife?”


    Ellis’s body stiffened. Had Eric uncovered the truth?

    “That’s none of your concern!” With a mocking smirk, Eric swept his gaze across Ellis, his eyes full of disdain. “So now that I’ve shut down the Gomez family’s logistics chain, do you really have the nerve to use me?”


    Ellis had no words to counter. His face tensed, and the silence stretched between them.


    After a moment, he gave a small nod. “You’re right, Mr. Scott. I did use my position, but I never took your wife from you. The truth is, you and Hadley had ended things long before I ever showed up.”


    He fixed his gaze directly at Eric.


    “As far as I know, you two went your separate ways after your surgery… Wasn’t it Hadley who ended things?”
