    Eric’s chest tightened. His face darkened.


    He shut his eyes and leaned back. She told him she was workingte tonight. But here she was—with Ellis?


    “Mr. Scott?” Xander turned from the front seat and asked in a low voice, “Are we not leaving?”


    “Follow them.” Eric’s tone dropped, cold and clipped. His Adam’s apple rose and fell as he swallowed.


    “Yes, sir.”


    Xander gave a nod, and then passed the order to the driver. The car rolled forward.


    Eric kept his gaze ahead, not blinking.


    He’d known Ellis had feelings for her. That wasn’t new. But with everything going on, he hadn’t had the time or the nerve to confront it.


    Now it looked like things had changed.

    In a private room, Ellis and Hadley sat across from each other. A server poured water into their sses and passed them the menus.


    “We’ll orderter.” Hadley gave the menu a quick nce, and then handed it back.

    “Alright. Just press the bell if you need anything.” The server bowed slightly and walked out.


    “Here.” Ellis nudged the ss closer to her.


    “Not hungry yet? We can wait.”


    “Thank you.” She took the ss and held it, her fingers resting against the cool surface.


    She hadn’t nned to eat. Yes, she had epted his invitation, but food wasn’t the reason she came.

    “Still calling me that?”


    Ellis chuckled as soon as she spoke.


    “Besides, I’ve been promoted.”

    Hadley gave a small nod.


    “Then should I call you Director now?”


    “It’s Deputy Director, actually.” Ellis shook his head. The smile on his face slipped away.


    “But that title isn’t for you to use.” He frowned a little.
