    “Okay. Got it!”

Together, they guided Hadley toward the dressing room. But when they opened the door, both women straightened instinctively.

Eric was there, seated on the sofa and waiting. His eyesnded on Hadley, and he frowned. He rose, walked over, and reached out to steady her by the waist.

Both Tamara and Chelsey released their hold at once.

Unsteady on her feet, Hadley leaned forward and copsed into Eric’s arms. Her face, still covered in makeup, smeared against his crisp shirt.

“Ah!” Hadley eximed and blinked up at him. “I’m so sorry!”

Eric chuckled helplessly. “You still remember to apologize first?”

“Yes!” Hadley nodded firmly, her face scrunched in regret. “I didn’t mean to ruin your nice clothes.”

“If it’s you, it doesn’t matter.” Eric kept his arm around her and nced at the bodyguard. “What happened? Is she drunk?”

“Yes,” Tamara confirmed. “Tonight’s scene involved drinking.”

“Hadley said it would help her get into character,” Chelsey added quickly.

Eric looked down at the woman in his arms, her makeup slightly smudged. “So dedicated…”

He was aware that her alcohol tolerance was nonexistent.

“Yes,” Hadley murmured, swaying a little. “I love my job.”

For a moment, Eric just stared. That smile… How long had it been since shest smiled at him like that?

Eric’s chest tightened, and his words caught in his throat. Atst, he whispered, “Yes. You’re the best.”

His hand still wasn’t fully functional. Only two weeks post-surgery, he couldn’t apply much pressure without strain.

He called on Tamara and Chelsey to help. Together, they gently wiped off Hadley’s makeup and changed her into fresh clothes.

It took some effort, but they finally managed to get her settled in the car.

“Water… I need water…” Hadley mumbled once in the car.

“Here.” Eric reached into the car’s cooler, grabbed a bottle, twisted the cap open, and held it to her lips.

Hadley drank in small sips, but then leaned her head back and pushed the bottle away with a sleepy hand. “No more…”

“Alright, alright.” Eric chuckled softly, amused.

“What did you say?” Hadley frowned at his muttering. “What? You find me annoying or something?”

“It’s not that…” Eric shook his head, panic rising. “Of course I don’t find you annoying!”

“Oh, okay then.” Hadley closed her eyes and leaned back.

    That was close!

Eric let out a quiet sigh. Seeing her settle in, he worried she might be ufortable. He picked up a soft pillow. “Hadley, lean on this.” She didn’t respond.

Left with no choice, he moved closer and adjusted the pillow behind her.

When a strand of her hair fell across her face, he reached out and tucked it behind her ear.
