?Chapter 1479:
Maybe it was the alcohol. Maybe it was something deeper, something raw. “I need to lean on your shoulder for a second,” N said softly, her voice trembling.
“Not happening,” Jessica replied immediately.
“Just for a little bit,” N murmured, her nose stinging. She sounded like she might cry.
Something felt off. Jessica’s expression changed. “What’s going on?”
“I’m drunk, and I can’t walk properly,” N admitted. Her voice was hoarse, but her words felt iplete. “It’s just us three girls left in this room. If you don’te, some random men might take us away.”
Jessica sighed, long and deep. She really didn’t want to go, but she couldn’t ignore it either.
“Are youing or not?” N asked, her voice breaking slightly at the end.
“Your level of annoyance is record-breaking today,” Jessica muttered under her breath. “Wait there.”
She hung up and turned to Melvin. “We need to go back.”
Melvin nced at her, puzzled. “Did you leave something behind?”
“Three drunk disasters,” Jessica muttered.
Her jaw clenched. She didn’t want to care, but her gut told her she shouldn’t leave this one alone. Not tonight.
Jessica couldn’t help thinking that if N hadn’t called her, she would have stayed out of the mess without a second thought. But since N had asked for her help, she knew that if anything went wrong and she hadn’t shown up, the guilt would weigh on her for ages.
Nightclubs could get wild in an instant. N and her two usual sidekicks looked gorgeous. If any of them got ckout drunk, it would only take a moment for trouble to find them.
Melvin looked genuinely confused. “What are you getting at?”
Jessica replied, trying to make sense of it herself. “N wanted me to pick them up. That’s all.”

Over the years, Jessica and N had gotten into more petty arguments than she could count. They could barely go a week without some back-and-forth. Despite N’s habit of clubbing with her friends, she had never called Jessica for a rescue. Tonight waspletely out of character.
N waited in the private room, still unsure what had possessed her to ask Jessica for help in the first ce. She just felt like seeing her.
Not long after, Jessica walked in, bringing Melvin along.
“What’s this? You brought your boyfriend?” N shot her a sly look. “Aren’t you worried I’ll snatch him right from under your nose?”
“If someone can take your boyfriend that easily, he was never really yours. And someone like that doesn’t deserve to be called a boyfriend,” Jessica answered quickly, her tone sharp.
N arched a brow. “So, how should I call him?”
“Garbage,” Jessica replied, not holding back.
