Chapter 1480:
Augh broke from N as if a lightbulb had just switched on in her head. “Couldn’t agree more.”
“Didn’t you say you needed someone to lean on? Go for it,” Jessica said, taking a seat beside her.
Out of nowhere, N asked, “Do you find me unbearable?”
“Absolutely,” Jessica answered right away.
N pressed further. “So, you don’t like me at all?”
Jessica shot her a look. “Would you want anyone who argued with you nonstop?”
“Not a chance,” N admitted, herughter softer than usual. Some of the edge had left her voice. “So if you can’t stand me, why did you bother showing up tonight?”
That question left Jessica quiet. She wondered if she had lost her sensesing here at all.<fn198a> Th? link to the orig?n of this information r?sts ?n FindN0vel</fn198a>
“Honestly, you’re so soft, you’d probably forgive someone right after they stabbed you in the back,” N said, her tone unusually honest. At the same time, she couldn’t shake the feeling that, for all their arguments, Jessica was someone she could actually rely on.
“What’s your point?” Jessica frowned, sensing there was more to this summons.
Without a word, N got up and poured two sses of wine. She handed one over. “Just drink with me a bit.”
Melvin stepped forward, intervening before Jessica could take the ss. He barely knew N, but her vibe instantly put him on guard. Jessica could see his concern.
“Take it easy,” N said, holding her ground. “It’s only regr wine. Nothing weird in it.”
Melvin remained firmly between them, unwilling to let Jessica take any risks. N grabbed an unopened beer, passing it to Jessica, then picked one for herself. “How about this? If I’d known you’d be so stiff, I wouldn’t have bothered fighting Jessica for you earlier. So dull.”
Jessica let out a quiet sigh. “You’re acting really off tonight.”
With a practiced flick, N opened Jessica’s bottle and handed it over. Her words were just as biting. “You’re dull yourself. Why guard him so closely?”

“Someone who swaps boyfriends as often as new clothes wouldn’t get it,” Jessica shot back without thinking. She had no idea what N’s history really was.
“There was a time when I had someone who always protected me. I was his whole world.” N twisted open her own bottle and took a slow sip, her voice losing some of its usual edge. “Wested four years, but in the end, reality won.”
Jessica was thrown by the confession. Reality? But wasn’t N’s family well-off?
“Did your parents not approve of him?” That was the only exnation Jessica coulde up with.
“He ended things with me because he wanted a better future,” N exined, her face unreadable, as if she were telling someone else’s story. “My family just runs a modest business. When ites to actual power and connections, we don’t measure up.”
Hearing that, Jessica put the pieces together. N had spent years loving someone who left her for a woman with more influence. It sounded like a plot from a TV drama.
