Chapter 1459

    ?Chapter 1459:

But she had once asked out someone named Mel—not realizing it was actually him. If it hadn’t been him, would that still have counted as a date?

    “Say something,” Jessica pressed.

“I don’t know,” Melvin said honestly.

Jessica just blinked at him, dumbfounded. He was hopeless!

“Listen to me carefully,” Jessica said slowly, each word heavy with emphasis. “I have never fooled around with men—ever. And I never asked any man out. Not in the past, not now. Understand?”

Melvin gave her a calm “Okay.”

“Okay?” Jessica repeated, narrowing her eyes.

“Well, if Mel hadn’t been me, wouldn’t that mean you asked someone else out?” Melvin pointed out, thinking back to that day and how the room was set up. It still made him uneasy.

    Jessica’s eyes gleamed mischievously.

Melvin truly didn’t understand. Her logic was a tangled web to him.

“If I hadn’t figured out that Mel was you, do you think I’d have bothered to meet up?” Jessica said, flipping the question.

“How did you know it was me?” Melvin asked. “The profile pic and background were nothing like my actual ount. You had no reason to suspect.”

Jessica tossed out three words with a smirk. “Take a guess.”

“Did you ask my boss to dig into the ount?” Melvin guessed.

“Isn’t Mel just short for Melvin? The second you sent me a friend request, I started to wonder if it was you,” Jessica exined, proving just how sharp her instincts were. “But to be sure, I borrowed your phone to make a call.”

That jogged Melvin’s memory. Thinking back to that moment, a rare flicker of emotion crossed his otherwise expressionless face.

“So you didn’t borrow my phone to make a call—you used it to confirm my identity?”<fn95cb> Updates are released by Find[?]ovel</fn95cb>

“Exactly,” Jessica said with a nod.

Melvin pressed his lips into a tight line. He had thought about the possibility that she’d suspected him. But after reviewing the software’s operation sequence, he hadn’t seen anything out of ce. He checked the call history and came up empty, so he just figured she must have erased it. Turns out, he’d been yed.

“Don’t you think I’m clever?” Jessica asked, noticing his slightly gloomy expression and feeling smug about it.

Back in school, she had always outshone him academically, but after graduation, he was the one always stealing the spotlight. Now, finally, she had one win in the bag.

“Yes,” Melvin admitted. He knew exactly why he had fallen for her trick—part guilt for turning her down, part blind trust. With business partners, he would have caught every loophole. But with her, he let his guard down.

“To make up for all the hurt and unfairness I’ve had to deal with, you’ll need to win me over now.” Jessica brought the conversation back to its center. “We’ll get married whenever you seed.”
