    He realized his mistake. Freya’s mom had passed away.


    “My life now—it’s all because of Freya,” Melvin said softly, his eyes filled with quiet gratitude. “Without her, I wouldn’t be who I am.”


    Seeing the seriousness etched across Melvin’s face, Jessica chose not to push any further.


    Once they got back home, Melvin helped her straighten up the bedroom and gently told her to get some rest.

    “Sleep with me,” she said inly, her tone calm but resolute.


    He froze in ce, clearly caught off guard by the sudden request.


    “Starting tonight, you’re staying here. With me,” she dered, her gaze unwavering.


    “We’re not married yet. It’s not appropriate,” Melvin refused instinctively, a flicker of unease surfacing beneath his otherwiseposed demeanor. “Once we’re married, I’ll stay.”


    “Is this because of my past?” Jessica asked, starting to stir the pot.


    Melvin looked slightly thrown.


    Standing her ground, Jessica spoke with conviction. “Are you saying no because I’ve fooled around with other men before?”


    “If you hadn’t brought it up, I wouldn’t have even remembered,” Melvin said, straightening his back as he unlocked his phone. “Send me the details of everyone you’ve dated. I’ll get them all tested.”


    Jessica stared at him, speechless.

    “What kind of tests are you even talking about?” Jessica asked cautiously.


    “All kinds,” Melvin answered, his difort in. “Just to be sure they’re healthy.”


    “You’re hopeless,” Jessica muttered under her breath,pletely exasperated.


    Melvin was still trying to wrap his head around everything. “What’s wrong?”


    “Didn’t I already tell you my rtionship with Jack was fake?” Jessica grumbled, resisting the urge to p some sense into him. But then again, considering he was still willing to be with her despite believing she had dated around, she couldn’t stay mad.


    Melvin nodded.


    “My thing with Jack was fake. So do you really think the others were real?” Jessica challenged him.


    Melvin had nothing to say. From everything he knew about her, she never seemed like the kind of girl who would casually date anyone.
