?Chapter 1399:
Jack sighed. “You still want my help or not?”
“This is mutual benefit at best,” she reminded him coolly.
Jack knew she wasn’t wrong and got to writing.
With the agreement set in ink, Jessica shared her story with him, forted by the fact she had something in writing. If he dared to talk, she’d make him regret it.
“This is easy,” Jack said after hearing the whole thing, his cockiness undeterred. “Tomorrow morning at nine, let’s pretend to get married. I’ll forge a fake marriage certificate for you.”
Jessica blinked, caught off guard. Was he for real?
“Don’t talk to him for a week. No messages, no calls. No matter how many times he reaches out, ignore him,” Jack continued, his n sharp and deliberate. “I’ll have someone spread a few stories.”
“What kind of stories?” Jessica asked, wary.
“That your life with me is a living nightmare. That I trash-talk you everywhere, hit you, scream at you—the whole nine yards,” Jack exined, unbothered. “And that you can’t do anything about it.”
“That’s overboard,” Jessica muttered. While she had considered misleading Melvin herself, she hadn’t nned on going that far.
Jack might have been a flirt and a little too carefree, but at least he wore his nature on his sleeve. He wasn’t the type to raise a hand or hurl cruel words at someone—not really.<fnd4f2> Latest content published on f?i?n?d?n?o?v?e?l?</fnd4f2>
“You have to look like you’re suffering so he’ll question whether his reasons for rejecting you are worth it,” Jack exined.
Jessica considered it. “But…”
“But what?” Jack prompted.
“If he really does like me, he mighte after you,” she said bluntly. Jessica thought about Melvin’s temperament—it was exactly the kind of thing he might do. Beneath that calm, collected surface, he could be downright terrifying when pushed.
“That’s your problem,” Jack said nonchntly. “When he confronts me, you step in. Protect me. That way, he’ll have to pull you aside and talk. That’s when you tell him if heys a finger on me, you’ll suffer worse.”
Jessica was speechless.

The n was wild. Effective? Probably. But it would drag Jack through the mud.
“So, what do you think?” he asked.
“Is there a softer option?” Jessica asked hopefully. “If this leaks, it’ll ruin your image. And yourpany.”
“I’m not stupid. I’ll make sure only Melvin hears it,” Jack replied smoothly. “If you want a gentle method, it’ll take a year.”
Jessica felt a little more at ease. As long as the damage stayed private, she could go along with it.
“What if he doesn’t like me at all?” she asked, onest doubt lingering.
“I’m 100% sure he does,” Jack said, his grin smug and certain. “And I promise you, he’lle running.”
