?Chapter 1323:
Later that day, when training had wrapped up, Ellis showed up in the dining hall. As soon as Moss and Cade spotted him, they shot up from their seats like soldiers on parade. “Captain!”
Freya and the rest blinked in surprise, unsure what had gotten into them.
“I’m just here to speak with Freya. You all go ahead and eat,” Ellis said as he slid into the seat beside her.
Cade and Moss quickly sank back into their seats, suddenly minding their table manners like never before. Their oddly stiff behavior had the others exchanging baffled looks.
“You’ve got a match with thework security team this weekend,” Ellis said to Freya, getting straight to the point. “Do you want it in the morning or the afternoon?”
“Isn’t this supposed to be a surprise operation?” Frederick chimed in. “If it’s scheduled, it loses its edge.”
Freya gave a nod of agreement.
Ellis fell silent for a moment.
“A sudden attack shows who’s really got the skills,” Freya added, a spark of youthful defiance lighting up her face. “If it’s alright, let’s set it for this month, and I’ll choose a random time to hit them.”
“Alright, I’ll sort it out with them,” Ellis agreed, not a hint of hesitation in his voice.
A surprise strike was the truest way to measure real readiness. After all, in the real world, no one sent out a polite heads-up beforeunching an attack.
“If you need anything, just speak up,” Ellis said, his voice calm, his expression refined andposed. “As long as it’s within the rules, I’ll allow it.”
“A high-endputer,” Freya answered instantly. “Preferably a desktop.”
Ellis gave her a nod of agreement.
After their conversation, he left.
Greta leaned in, curiosity written all over her face. “So when do you n to attack them?”

“This weekend,” Freya replied after thinking it over for a second.
They exchanged looks. “Isn’t that when the outdoor training’s scheduled? Where will you find the time?”
There wasn’t exactly a desktop lying around in the forest, and the training left them no room to breathe.
“The captain’s officeputer will do,” Freya said, revealing that herputer request had been nothing but a diversion. “After tomorrow’s training, I’ll let him know and borrow it at midnight.”
Moss gave a nervous cough.
Cade’s face wasn’t any better—he looked just as conflicted.
Everyone turned to the two of them. “What’s going on with you two?”
“Once the lights-out signal goes off, wandering around is strictly off-limits,” Cade said, clearing his throat, clearly concerned that Freya might get herself into trouble. “Sneaking into the captain’s office at midnight for an attack could get you a penalty.”
