?Chapter 1253:
She wasn’t afraid he would leave her.
Jesse stayed quiet for a moment, eyes still on the book. Then he asked, “Uncle n, can Ninae with you when you take Jerome home tonight?”
n raised an eyebrow. “Not worried she won’t want toe back?”
Jesse didn’t even hesitate. “She will.”
That afternoon, Nina stuck to Jerome like glue. They yed with toys, and sometimes, she even pretended not to know the answers to silly questions—just to get closer to him.
Watching it all unfold, n rubbed his chin, his thoughts spinning.<fn2c53> Get full chapters from fινdnοvel</fn2c53>
Seriously? Pretending not to know the answer to impress someone? That was straight out of middle school. It didn’t hurt anyone, sure—only brought people closer. But how did Nina already know that trick?
“When she starts school,” n said to Jesse, dead serious, “you better keep an eye on her. The way I see it, she’ll go chasing after anyone she finds good-looking.”
And her skills were impressive too.
Jesse nced up from his book. “No need,” he said simply.
n frowned. “What do you mean, ‘no need’?”
Hadn’t he always been protective? Why did it seem like he didn’t care now?
“She only likes good-looking people,” Jesse said, totally unfazed. “And not many people look better than our carefree dad.” He let out a small sigh. “Once she gets older, her standards will probably get even higher.”
Picky about everything—looks, voice, hands, eyes, even eyshes. It was totally possible.
What Jesse really should’ve been worried about wasn’t Nina chasing boys—it was whether she’d ever find someone who met all those ridiculous standards.
Jesse blinked, caught off guard for a second… then realized, yeah—Jesse kind of had a point.
Still, how did a four-year-old already think like that?

As they chatted, time slipped by. Before they knew it, it was already four-thirty in the afternoon.
Nina came back inside with Jerome, walking slowly, her hand still holding his. “Can’t you stay just a little longer?” she asked, her voice soft and hopeful.
Jerome shook his head, polite but firm. “I promised my mom I’d be home by six.”
He was a good kid.
Nina’s shoulders slumped. “Okay.” Her mood sank in an instant.
Jerome walked over to say goodbye to n and Jesse, polite and thoughtful as always.
The driver n arranged was already waiting.
As Jerome climbed into the car, Nina stood there watching him, visibly reluctant.
Jesse quietly stepped up beside her and asked, “Wanna go with him?”
Her eyes lit up like someone had flipped a switch. “Really?!”
“Get in.”
“Yay!” she cheered, instantly perking up.
