?Chapter 1254:
She hopped into the car without a trace of the sadness from just moments earlier.
n watched her, then chuckled to himself and followed them in. Before the car pulled away, he nced back at Jesse through the window. That kid… so stubborn. But deep down, he really did care.
On the drive to send Jerome home, Nina kept up a steady stream of chatter with him.
As they neared their destination, she reminded him once again, her voice full of enthusiasm, “Jerome, can youe over to my house to y next time when you’re free?”
“I will,” Jerome replied with a small nod.
“I’ll have my mom teach you someputer stuff,” Nina added quickly, her tone brimming with clever confidence. She knew just how to tempt him. “Once you learn, you’ll totally be able to keep up with my brother.”
At that, Jesse gave her a curious nce, caught off guard by the fact that, for once, she didn’t im Jerome could surpass him.
Jerome paused for a beat, then nodded again. “That’s great.”

n had always assumed Jerome muste from a well-connected family—how else could a five-year-old be that sharp withputers?
But as they pulled into the lot, he realized it was just an ordinary apartmentplex.
“Come on,” n said, motioning to the kids, taking the lead. “Let’s walk Jerome to his door.”
Without hesitation, Nina hopped out of the car and grabbed Jerome’s hand. Jerome opened his mouth to decline, but the moment he saw her wide, sparkling eyes, the words died on his tongue. They lived on the eighteenth floor.
Jerome pressed his finger to the scanner, unlocking the door, and stepped inside.
He had expected his mother to greet him, but when his eyesnded on the man in the living room, his whole expression hardened.

“What’s wrong, Jerome?” Nina asked, concern flickering across her face as she noticed him suddenly frozen.
“It’s nothing,” Jerome muttered, his lips pressed into a line. Then, carefully, he asked, “Can I invite you in for drinks? As a thank-you for taking care of me today?”
Nina responded without missing a beat, “Sure!” Jesse, however, stayed silent.
Just then, the sound of approaching footsteps echoed from deeper inside, and a strikingly beautiful woman with a gentle demeanor stepped out. She paused the moment she saw n and the kids. “Jerome… who are they?”
“I was at their house today,” Jerome said politely, ncing behind him. “This is Mr. n Briggs, and these are Nina and Jesse.”
“Nice to meet you all. I’m Donna Russell. I’m sorry if Jerome caused you any trouble,” Donna said, her tone polite but tinged with unease. “Nice to meet you. I would invite you in, but it’s not very convenient right now. I’m sorry.”
“No problem at all,” n replied with ease, “Nice to meet you too. Well, Jerome’s home safe now, so we won’t keep you.”
