Chapter 1136

    ?Chapter 1136:

They had promised to keep her identity as his wife under wraps, hadn’t they? She kept the rest of her thought to herself, dreading an answer she wasn’t ready to hear.

To her surprise, Norton met her with a smile, his voice soft but firm. “You want me to y it quiet while they drag your name through the dirt? You’re my wife, Yvonne. Anyone who messes with you, messes with me. You think I’d just let that slide? Besides, things have changed.”

Her heart jolted unexpectedly, and she found herself drawn to his face. Their eyes met, and only then did she see the quiet warmth in his expression. Somehow, the chill she once saw in him had faded.

She looked away, unsettled by the warmth she hadn’t expected.

Norton didn’t notice. As far as he was concerned, she was being her usual headstrong self—too proud to lean on anyone, even him.

Together, they walked off, unaware that Heidi was trailing them from a distance. She lingered behind, her eyes burning with resentment. After failing to earn Yvonne’s forgiveness, she had left the office in haste.

Now, with the police watching her closely, she couldn’t afford to leave a trace. Keeping to the fringes, she followed silently. The sting of Yvonne’s cold dismissal still pulsed in her memory. Gritting her teeth, she made a vow—to wipe that look off Yvonne’s face if it was thest thing she did.

In the days that followed, Yvonne stuck to her routine, keeping her schedule consistent and her life tightly ordered. Yet a strange sensation crept into her days—a sense of being watched.

That feeling grew stronger whenever she workedte alone in the office. She would scan the quiet room, her heart ticking faster, only to whisper to herself that it was all in her head.

After a moment’s hesitation, she sighed and decided to pack up early.

“Is something bothering you, Yvonne?” Ethan’s voice broke the stillness, his smile gentle, eyes quietly searching hers. He had stepped out of his office just in time to catch the troubled crease in her brow.

“It’s nothing,” Yvonne said, smiling lightly as she shook her head. The moment Ethan stepped outside, the sensation of being watched nearly disappeared. She gave a small shake of her head, silently scolding herself for reading too much into things.

Pushing away the thought of going back, she pivoted to her work with quiet resolve.

Ethan, catching the subtle tension in her shoulders, approached with a gentle smile. “If anything confuses you, just let me know. We’ll handle it together. I’m not going anywhere.”

As he spoke, his eyes flicked over the scattered documents on her desk. Finding nothing out of the ordinary, he finally epted her reassurance. She returned his kindness with a warm smile. With Ethan nearby, the sense of being watched seemed to dissolvepletely.

Across the street, cloaked in the shadows of a dimly lit building, Heidi adjusted her high-powered lens and watched the scene unfold with steely focus.

He had counted on Yvonne working overtime to give her a clear shot. To her dismay, Ethan hadn’t left—and he was even chatting with Yvonne.

Pleased, Heidi shifted her position and captured a few shots of their so-called “intimate moments.”
