Chapter 1329

    ?Chapter 1329:

Le wasn’t sure if those women were saying it intentionally, but they were practically shouting in perfect English, making sure she heard every word.

Ste, clearly ufortable, stood up abruptly and waved goodbye, making a beeline out of the crowd. Catching Le’s eye, she gave a sheepish grin. “It’s gettingte. We should head back before everyone starts worrying about us.”

“Sure,” Le agreed, and they started walking back, the servants trailing behind them at a distance.

Ste, who had been chattering away earlier, was now silent, her eyebrows furrowed. It was obvious those gossiping olddies had gotten to her.

About twenty minutester, they arrived home. Ste trudged into her bedroom and said, “Let me know when dinner’s ready. I need some rest now.”

Before Eileen could even get a word in, Ste had already closed the door.

Eileen stared at the closed door, pletely baffled.

    “What happened?” Eileen asked Le.

“That old woman’s got issues,” Le replied.

“What do you mean?” Eileen asked, confused.

“She is easily affected and can’t see past her own nose. If she weren’t constantly reminding herself to think about the bigger picture, she’d be quite difficult to deal with.” Le had met all sorts of people in her life, and after just a few interactions with Ste, she had seen through the woman.

Eileen helped Le sit down on the couch and gave her a thumbs-up. “You’re absolutely right,” she said. Ste was a smart woman, but she had her blind spots and could be easily swayed.

“It’s no big deal,” Le said, nudging Eileen’s arm gently. “Just watch me. After Christmas, I’ll have her wrapped around my finger.”

    Eileen frowned. “Grandma, you’re…”

Le’s expression and tone were shady, like she was up to something.

“Hey, we’re all family,” Le said, patting her chest. “I wouldn’t do anything bad. Just wait and see.” She winked at Eileen.

Eileen finally rxed. “It’s not a big deal. She’s old. I don’t take anything she says or does too personally. You don’t need to go overboard.”

“Don’t worry; I know what I’m doing,” Le said.

Seeing Le so confident, Eileen decided to let it go. Dinner was soon ready. Eileen was about to go get Ste when Le stopped her.

“I’ll go and get her here. You set the table. No servants here, so I want to help,” Le said.

Le went to Ste’s room and knocked. “Ste, dinner’s ready.”

Ste wasn’t asleep. Soon, she opened the door and headed to the dining room.

Le followed, her voice sweet as honey. “Thanks to you, I’m living the good life here. We’ve got a couple of special dishes famous in my hometown tonight. Hope you like them.”

“Okay,” Ste said, not noticing anything strange.
