    Lost in thought, a wave ofplex emotions washed over Keith, and his eyes filled with longing for the past.


    Jaliyah sized Keith up from a distance and asked Harrell, “Did your dad ever look at you like that when you were little?”


    “How the hell would I remember that? Stop talking nonsense here,” Harrell snapped back.


    Jaliyah rolled her eyes. “You and your sister are nothing to Keith. He only sees you as someone who will take care of him when he’s old, not his kids.”


    Harrell red at her but couldn’t think of a goodeback. Jaliyah always won their arguments.


    “Your mom seems like she could handle herself, but she’s a nobody. Always scared to make a move. I have to be the one to take action here.” Jaliyah scanned the crowd and spotted someone wearing a servant uniform of the Lyons family.


    Their eyes met for a moment. Then, Jaliyah looked away and patted Harrell’s chest. “Just watch. I’m going to put Eileen in her ce for your mother today. Your mother won’t be looking down on me anymore after this.”


    “Don’t act rashly,” Harrell said. “We’re not at someone else’s ce. Making a scene here is just embarrassing.”


    Jaliyah spun on her heel and left after muttering, “Coward!”


    Harrell was speechless. He hurried after her, worried she might actually cause a scene.


    There were many guests here. After a brief chat with Alvera, Eileen and Le decided to give up their seats to some other guests.

    At that moment, Keith stood up and followed them outside.


    “Mr. Aston,” Eileen greeted him with a polite nod.


    “Please, call me Keith,” he replied with a warm smile. “Your mother’s birthday ising up in a couple of days. You should visit her grave and bring some flowers then.”


    Eileen was stunned, unsure how to respond.


    Le smiled at Keith. “That’s very thoughtful of you. Eileen will do that; don’t worry.”


    “Okay,” Keith said, a hint of sadness in his smile. “Your mother loved shortbread and ck tea. And she also liked…”


    He started talking about Dottie’s favorite things, and the words just kept flowing.


    People came and went around Keith, but he seemed oblivious, continuing to talk. Eileen had no idea when he would stop. Eventually, Eileen gently interjected, “Why don’t you add me on WhatsApp? You can send me all you know about my motherter.”


    “Alright,” Keith said, pulling out his phone. He and Eileen quickly exchanged WhatsApp info. Realizing this wasn’t the best spot for a long chat, Keith shed a smile and walked away.


    Eileen headed back to the room with Gabri and Le and sat at a table. Just then, her phone buzzed with a message from Bryan.


    The message was short, just a question mark.


    “What’s up?” Eileen texted back.


    Bryan’s reply came quickly. “Are you at the Lyons family’s ce?”
