    The old butler assisted Ste to her feet, and they slowly made their way back to her room for some rest. The call felt like a farewell.


    Once the phone was set down, the silence in the room was suffocating for Eileen.


    After a prolonged moment, Eileen finally looked at Bryan, her face breaking into a smile. “I’ve made peace with it. Maybe you should talk to Ste. The solitude of the mountain can be overwhelming, and she’s not as young as she used to be. What if she gets sick and there’s no hospital nearby? Perhaps it’s better for her to stay there.”


    “Doctors are with her. She’s safe on the mountain. Besides, it keeps her away from Brandon’s clutches. It’s her sanctuary, and it’s not like she’s there forever.” Bryan tucked his phone away and softly brushed his fingers against Eileen’s earlobe. Leaning forward, he kissed her deeply. “Let’s get to the point. Are youpletely sure you won’t reconsider Gabri taking my surname?”


    “She won’t take your surname,” Eileen replied, her forehead touching his as she looked him squarely in the eye. Her tone was unwavering. “She’s my daughter, and she will keep my surname.”


    Bryan gently bit her lip, but despite the softness, she still let out a cry of pain. He instantly released her, taking a sip of his drink to ease the mark left by his teeth.


    “I remember what you said. No regrets in the future,” he warned.


    He released her and saw the deep teeth marks on her lip, feeling a rush of remorse. Tenderly, he stroked her lip with his fingertips and suggested, “You can bite back tonight. Let’s go home and check in with Gabri.”


    With that, he opened the car door and stepped out.

    Eileen followed, catching a brief glimpse of him as he vanished into the vi. She shut the door, slung her purse over her shoulder, and walked toward the vi, her hands in her pockets. Just as she neared the entrance, the door burst open with great force.


    Josue bolted out, screaming. Upon seeing her, he darted behind her for cover. “Eileen, your crazy husband is trying to kill me!” he eximed.


    Bryan followed closely, his handsome face showing intense anger as he red at Josue with his fiery eyes. It was clear that Josue hadmitted a serious offense.


    Eileen realized that she couldn’t protect Josue, and he quickly ran out of the yard. However, Bryan didn’t pursue him. Instead, he turned back. Eileen watched as Bryan gently and carefully wiped Gabri’s chubby face with a baby wipe.


    Gabri’s soft, pale skin reddened slightly after being wiped, but she seemed unaffected.


    “Josue probably realized that Bryan already knew Gabri is his daughter,” Eileen said quietly. “He barged in, trying to take Gabri away, but I stopped him.”


    Despite this, Milford was unable to get Josue to leave, so he stayed to watch over Gabri.
