Wilbur let out a long breath after looking at the information. He was now certain that there was definitely an underground river secretly hidden beneath the desert.
However, that underground river had only been a tributary. Someone hadid down a formation, forcing the river to flow toward Wrecknam and turning the tributary into the mainstream. That was what had brought Wrecknam to its current flourishing state.
Wrecknam was practically at its peak as a desert city now. Wilbur had visited many desert cities before, and they had only had a hundred thousand people living in them at most. On top of that, practically every desert city was built either near an oasis, or the border of the desert.
There was also usually a clear path leading out of a desert city, but Wrecknam did not have that.
That meant that the only way to get to Wrecknam was by ne, but flight tickets from Riol to Wrecknam were by no means cheap. Thus, Wrecknam was also called the city of gold.
The standards of living here were extremely high. Despite there being enough water here, there were other things people needed to survive such as protein, carbohydrates, and other macronutrients, none of which could be produced efficiently in a desert.
Upon leaving the library, Wilbur made up his mind to find this mysterious underground formation. He was certain that the formation had something to do with one of the ninth dragon cauldron pieces that Senior Fremont had left here before.
Orkot told Wilbur that dragons could never get too far away from water. Without it, a dragon would die of thirst in no time. There had been no sources of water when Wrecknam had first been built, and it was an elite who hadid down a formation here to bring water in.
Wilbur felt like the piece of the ninth dragon cauldron might be the formation core. After all, the dragon aura from a Dragon Cauldron piece could form an air dragon in the formation, which would be able to lead water in from underground. That might be why Wrecknam had an endless source of water.
Wilbur wove through the busy streets and came to the square in the city center. He saw therge well in the middle of the square and could sense the powerful formation aura before he even got close.
Indeed, there had been a formationid down here.
Wilbur was overjoyed with this discovery. All he needed to do now was enter the formation. He would probably get his hands on the dragon cauldron piece just like that. Just as he was about to approach the well, a voice called out to him from a nearby podium. "Hey, what are you doing?"
Wilbur turned around to see a man in ck robes sitting atop the podium. Wilbur could sense at once that the man was a cultivator, and vice versa.
"Don''t get me wrong. I''m just trying to take a look at what''s inside the well."
"I don''t believe you. You''re a cultivator, and you should know that cultivators live in
a world that ispletely separate from that of mortal beings. I hope you won''t meddle in thetter."
Wilbur paused for a beat, then said, "I really think you''ve gotten the wrong idea here. I don''t want to meddle in the life of mortals. I genuinely just want to see what''s inside the well."
The man in the ck robes stared at Wilbur solemnly. "I''d get out of here right now if I were you. This well means a lot to the people of Wrecknam. As the guardian of the well, I won''t let anything happen to it."
Wilbur looked up at the man. "Did youy down a formation here to bring the water in from the secret underground river to Wrecknam?"
"So, you''ve found out about the city''s secret. Well, that only means you''re even less wee to get any closer," the man responded.
