In front of the gate of a dpidated old building on the outskirts of the Economic Development Zone, Wilbur raised his hand and knocked on the rusty gate. After waiting for a while, an elderly amputee with both legs missing struggled toe out and open the door.
"Who are you looking for, young man?" The elderly disabled man opened the door and saw Wilbur''s unfamiliar face, so he asked with a puzzled expression.
Wilbur smiled after he heard that, asking, "Excuse me, sir. Is this Lindon Tomaz''s family?"
Hearing Wilbur''s question, the old man immediately had a vignt look on his face. He carefully looked at Wilbur and asked, "What is your rtionship with that person? Do you need something from them?"
Seeing the old man''s wary look, Wilbur knew that it might not be as easy as he imagined to gather evidence.
After a moment of thought, Wilbur had a sudden moment of inspiration. Then, he took out Pendelton''s business card and handed it to the old man, saying, "Sir, I''m the secretary of Pendleton Howard, the one in charge of the city. I''m here to make some inquiries. Are you free?"
"No, not at all... Just leave! I don''t know any Lindon Tomaz either!"
The man immediately waved his hand to reject Wilbur when he heard Wilbur''s purpose. Then, he mmed the door shut without giving Wilbur another chance to speak.
"This is weird! The address clearly says this is the ce, but..."
Wilbur muttered to himself outside the door for a moment, then he quickly understood what was going on.
To confirm his spection, Wilbur decided to go to the vige store at the entrance to ask about the situation.
When he arrived, Wilbur saw several young men who were sitting shirtless at the entrance, drinking and ying some games. Wilbur just nced at them casually before entering the store and grabbing a bottle of water. He nned to ask about the situation while he paid.
"How much for the water?" Wilbur approached the counter and asked the fat, bespectacled man who was focused on his phone.
"Two! And no credit..."
When he heard that, the man nced at the water in Wilbur''s hand and quoted the price before he continued to bow his head down and y with his phone.
"Boss, can I ask you something? I not asking for free either. Treat this as a consultation fee!"
Wilbur took out a hundred dor bill and ced it on the counter, looking at the boss before he asked.
When he heard that, the man raised his head to carefully look at Wilbur. Then, he checked the money on the counter to make sure it was not counterfeit. After epting the money, he said, "Go ahead, what do you want to ask?"
"Sir, I just wanted to ask if that old house at the end of the vige belongs to Lindon Tomaz''s family. I''m his college ssmate, and it''s been so long since west met. I just came here to visit him!"
Hearing what Wilbur said, the man finally put down his phone and looked at Wilbur warily. After that, he shouted out, "Solomon, someone''s looking for Lindon..."
Right after he said that the man looked down at his phone again. However, the young men who had been drinking outside all got up before they surrounded him.
"Brat, why are you looking for Lindon? I''m his cousin, so you can just tell me if you need anything! My father is the secretary of the vige, so I have power here!"
A young man who dyed his hair blonde and looked as skinny as a monkey said with an arrogant look on his face.
Hearing what the young man said, Wilbur knew he was at the right ce. He bought a pack of cigarettes from the store and gave it to those people, "Bro, I''m a ssmate of Lindon''s. He was my good friend in college, and I wanted to visit him since I happened to be in Seechertown!"
