The two men came up to Wilbur and were about to drag him out.
Just then, Wilbur shed a smile. "You must be Mister Seamus Nees. I brought Sarah to Faye''s office, and we even chatted there for a while. Please believe your daughter, and in turn, believe me as well."
At the same time, Sarah threw herself in front of Wilbur with her arms stretched out. "Don''t you dare touch him!"
The two men hesitated at once. They were merely doing their job. Sarah was the daughter of the Nees family, and they did not dare to cross her despite the fact that they were merely operating on Warner''s orders.
Warner raised an eyebrow at Wilbur in confusion at his words, before looking at his daughter.
Sarah said at once, "I swear it''s true! I ran into Wilbur after I got to Seechertown and told him about my situation. He said he could help, which I didn''t believe at first. Then he brought me to meet Madam Yves, whom I did see in the flesh! He''s not lying, I swear."
The rest of the Nees family exchanged nces with each other at the words.
If that was really the case, the Neeses would not even need the Rochers to get through this predicament.
After all, everyone knew just how risky dealing with the Rochers was.
Even the guarantee of a marriage could not quell their doubts about this.
The Rochers'' track record in the past twenty years was far too shady for anyone to trust them at all.
Just then, however, Jenson said, "You don''t even know that you''re getting scammed, youngdy! I can''t believe you''re looking so smug at a time like this."
"I saw Madam Yves with my own eyes, Uncle Jenson, and she personally said that she was Wilbur''s girlfriend! How could that be fake?" Sarah retorted.
Jenson smirked. "How hard is it to rent an office building out, fake some documents, and get a lookalike to pretend to be Faye Yves? This guy''s clearly a veteran scammer, you don''t even know what you''ve gotten yourself into!"
"Madam Yves looked exactly like she did on television! How could she be a fake?" Sarah asked loudly.
Jenson snorted. "It''s just makeup, or like I said, she''s a lookalike. That''s hardly difficult at all."
"Why would he scam me, of all people?" Sarah seemed incapable of understanding where her uncle came from.
Warner smirked. "The Nees family might be in a bit of financial trouble, but we''ve got over a billion dors in assets. He could just be iming to help you to get a fortune out of this! Is that enough of a reason for him to want to scam you yet?"
Wilbur almost startedughing at that.
To tell the truth, there was some point to what Jenson was saying.
A lot of scammers were willing to go to great lengths for money, and what Jenson
had said was perfectly achievable by an expert scammer.
Faye had been so smart and had still fallen for Lou''s scam.
However, Wilbur was not a scammer.
Realization dawned upon Warner and the rest of the Nees family at the words.
Everything made sense now.
After all, why would Cape International want to help the Neeses out of nowhere? Neither party even knew each other.
Sarah stood frozen to the ground at the words.
Jenson''s words made more sense by the second, and Sarah''s confusion grew as well. Could Wilbur really be a scammer, after all?
Had everything she had seen been fake?
Amidst her daze, Sarah stared at Wilbur nkly.
Wilbur smiled. "I''m not scamming you. You heard what Faye said. You can call up Cape International right now, or Faye herself."
"Fake numbers and burner phones pretending to be Cape and Faye. I''ve seen it all, you''re not fooling us with this," Jenson said coldly.
Wilbur did not know what to say. This guy really had a hard time trusting others.
Not that it waspletely Jenson''s fault. Wilbur''s im really did sound a little ridiculous.
Wilbur decided to be blunt. "I''ll be honest, then. I was after Sarah''s bangle and agreed to help your family out in exchange for it."
