The man nced at Wilbur. He replied in the quietest voice, "Harley Penn."
It was an awful name.
Wilbur instantly smiled and said, "What a coincidence. My surname is Penn too. Can I have a word with you?"
Carol yelled sternly before Harley could reply, "What''s there to talk about? Don''t you have work to do? Go."
The man lowered his gaze and silently went back inside.
Wilbur looked at the nosy neighbors at the door, and he felt so embarrassed.
He panicked and closed the door. He walked to Carol and said in a low voice, "Miss Ziegler, they said you abused them, and they tried to jump into the river. I saved them. We would like to have a word with you. Let''s resolve the conflicts between you guys so you can get along in the future."
"They jumped into the river? Why aren''t they dead yet? Why did you save them?" asked Carol in a row. She did not stop her work at all.
Wilbur asked angrily, "Aren''t you too overbearing as a daughter-inw?"
"Overbearing?" Carol finally looked up. She looked at Wilbur and asked, "Why did no one say they were overbearing when they abused me and cursed my son?"
"Huh?"
Wilbur instantly widened his eyes in shock. He wondered what was going on. Carol scoffed and lowered her gaze. She started to get back to work again as if she did not want to talk about it.
Wilbur looked at the old couple, then he looked at Carol again.
It seemed like there was more to the story.
He thought about it and opened the door. He walked outside and closed the door from the outside.
The nosy neighbors outside all stared at him.
Wilbur coughed awkwardly and said, "Hey, neighbors. Here''s the thing, I ran into the old couple who tried tomit suicide at a bridge. I saved them, and I also heard about their daughter-inw, so I came to resolve the conflict. However, it seems like there is more to the story. Can you guys tell me what''s going on with this family?"
His question immediately triggered the gossipy nature of the nosy neighbors. They obsessively beckoned Wilbur to lead him aside to gossip.
"You don''t know that the old couple are a piece of work?"
"Seriously?" asked Wilbur in shock.
"Their son, Harley Penn, had an ex-wife. She left because she was bullied by the old couple."
"Why?"
"Why did they bully her? Because they disliked her for no reason. Theyined that she ate too much, woke upte, and cursed her out for unimportant matters all the time. Their daughter-inw couldn''t take it anymore, so she divorced their son."
"That''s outrageous," said Wilbur. He could not understand it because they did notck food or drinks. Besides, getting up a littlete was not a huge bad habit.
Moreover, they scolded her so much that she signed a divorce, so she must have felt emotionally abused.
"Outrageous?" A nosydy smirked and said, "The rest of the story is even more outrageous."
"Do tell," said Wilbur humbly.
His attitude made the nosydy like him a lot.
The nosydy looked at Wilbur approvingly. She mysteriously said, "Carol is their second daughter-inw. She''s perfect, but they are still not happy with her."
"Their son is too weak. He doesn''t dare make a squeak in front of his parents. His ex-wife left because he deserved it," said an old man.
Wilbur was dumbfounded.
The old couple kept telling him about how inhumane their daughter-inw was.
However, the neighbors said she was a good daughter-inw, and the old couple were the bad guys.
He wondered what the hell was going on.
"Let me tell you that the old couple brought their rtives to hit Carol together," said the olddy.
