Chapter 8: Going Back To The Maynard Residence


    Half an hourter, the taxi arrived at the Maynard Family mansion in the southern suburbs.


    One of the ancestors of the Maynard family used to be a high-ranking officer in the royal court. The


    mansion, which was given to the family by the royalty, had been through several wars. It was now


    worth billions.


    When the taxi stopped in front of the mansion, the Maybaching from the opposite direction also


    stopped.


    The man got out of the Maybach. His ck suit was not wrinkled at all, and his thin lips were pressed


    into a straight line. He looked at Luz.


    Henry Maynard? Why is he here?


    Luz was stunned for a minute before remembering that this was the Maynard family mansion. Of


    course, he would be here for dinner.


    There were several paths leading to the house, so Luz took a shortcut so she would not have to walk in


    with Henry. When she arrived at the house, one of the maids greeted her. "Good evening, madam."


    Luz''s expression was frozen as she nodded back in greeting and followed the maid in.


    Old Mrs Maynard had just turned 60 this year. Her long green dress made her look younger than she


    was as she chatted happily with Henry in the living room. She stood up when the maid told her of Luz''s


    arrival.


    Luz walked into the living room and greeted the olddy. "Grandma."


    "Hello, Luz! Come here!" The olddy''s smile deepened at the sight of Luz. She moved over a little and

    gestured for Luz to sit beside her. "Come and sit here, let me take a good look at you."


    Beside her, Henry lowered his eyes and focused on his tea as if Luz did not exist.


    Luz bit her lip and went over to sit down.


    She was very close to Henry. The strange and familiar coldness around the tip of her nose made her


    feel a little dizzy and ufortable. She moved her hips slightly away from the man behind her.


    Mrs Maynard was evidently very happy to see Luz and kept asking her questions.


    Later, when they arrived at the topic of Mr and Mrs Boone''s car ident, Luz was a little down.


    Seeing this, Mrs Maynard hugged her tenderly. "Silly girl. why did you tell me about this?"


    "Grandma, it''s all in the past. It doesn''t matter now."


    It took Luz a while to calm down. She pursed her lips and smiled at the olddy. "As long as you''re


    well, I''ll be very happy."


    The olddy tapped her on the forehead. "You only care about others."


    While she was speaking, the olddy looked over at Henry. She was frustrated when he did not say


    anything.


    It was all her grandson''s fault for being useless. He couldn''t even keep such a good wife!


    The Maynard Family had a strict seating order at meals. Since Luz had already divorced Henry, she


    was technically a visitor, which meant she should be sitting at the end of the table. However, Mrs


    Maynard insisted that she sat beside Henry.


    "Henry, pass the soup to Luz. She needs to eat better."


    "That''s alright, grandma. I can do it myself," Luz hurriedly refused.


    The olddy red at her disapprovingly. "No, let Henry do it for you. Don''t move."


    As she spoke, the olddy gave Henry a pointed look.


    Henry pursed his lips and got up. He picked up Luz''s soup bowl and filled it for her. Luz reached out


    and took it. When she touched his cold fingertips, her heart trembled and she quickly lowered her eyes.


    The olddy chuckled. She was the first to eat at the table.


    Halfway through the meal, Mrs Maynard asked Luz where she was staying. When she learned that she


    was living in the Boone Family mansion, she frowned and felt a little distressed.


    "Luz, no one has lived there for seven years. It must be dirty and outdated. I''ll get someone to go


    renovate the house for you. In the meantime, you can stay here. I''ll feel less worried with you here."


    "Mother, are you confused?" Thedy sitting to her right of the dining table couldn''t help but say, "Henry


    has divorced her. She is not the daughter-inw of the Maynard Family anymore. It''s against the rules


    for her to live in the Maynard family."


    The olddy had never liked her eldest son''s second wife. She nced up when she protested and


    said, "Do I need your permission to allow Luz to stay here?"


    Thedy''s face stiffened and she said dully, "Mother, I, I didn''t mean that."


    "What, I have no right to speak in this family now?"
