Chapter 40


    Eric and Alissa were sitting face to face. The restaurant was empty. The sky was dark. The only sound


    which was audible was the tick tock of the clock. Alissa was waiting patiently for what Eric has to say.


    He called her and asked her toe to meet him as he has something very important to tell her. But


    it''s beenplete 45 minutes and all he is doing is staring at the table and tapping his foot on the floor.


    "I have to tell you something" Eric finally said.


    "Eric go ahead. I will listen to you" Alissa promised.


    "It is not working out between us. You understand it right? I am going to get married. So please


    understand" He dered.


    And everything freezed for a moment. Alissa looked at him dead in the eyes. He slowly put his hand on


    the table and forwarded it towards Alissa. Alissa looked down and saw the wedding card. Alissa was


    just trying to insert all this in her head. She scratched her hand believing it is a nightmare. How badly


    she wanted toe out of it.


    "Eric.....It...is" she was not able to speak. There was a lump in her throat.


    She swallowed hard to clear the lump in her throat but it was just getting worse. Tears were visible in

    Eric tried to speak but Alissa stopped him.


    "Leave" she said.


    He tried to reason with her but all she said was "Leave"


    He got up and left the restaurant. Alissa looked out of the window and then gently held the card. The


    card was beautiful. A tear dropped over it and Alissa just couldn''t bear to look at that card. She got up


    and went to the church. She was hopping that the door of the church would be open and luckily it was.


    She stepped inside and joined her hands in front of the statue of Jesus.


    "Oh dear lord! I''ve never felt the love of parents. I''ve gone through a lot in my life which is unbearable.


    The boy whom I loved truly has just broken my heart and has taken away my child from me. Then I was


    molested....again. I fell in love again but again had my heart broken. Please god. Show me some sign


    of your love and mercy. Please shower me with your blessings. Because I am slowly giving up"


    She got up and left with that wedding card. When she reached home she went to her room and took


    out a ck box from her closet. She opened the box and took out a long list. She took a deep breath.


    The paper has written the dates and the things which she has gone through during that day. And one


    more day was going to be added up in that list today.


    19th February, 2019 : Break up with Eric


    She was broken from inside but was not reacting. She was surprised why she was not reacting. She


    wanted to scream at the top of her lungs. She finally gave all of her to a boy and she again went


    through a heartbreak. She wanted to leave everything. She wanted to destroy her own damn self. She


    got up and went outside. It was dark. It seemed like it could rain anytime. But she doesn''t care about it.


    She walked and slowly slowly gained her speed. She started to run. She ran and ran and ran until she


    was standing in front of the club. The same club due to which she became an alcoholic. Due to which


    she used to pass out and spend nights out. She went there and opened the door. Smell of alcohol filled


    her nose. She went there and asked for the strongest drink. She took that ss and drank it all at once.


    Then another and another. She was finally feeling clumsy. Soon a group of boys reached towards her.


    They had a pack of cigarettes. They offered her one and she epted it. She lit the cigarette and


    inhaled it like her life depended on it. The boys looked at her and suddenly one of them reached to her


    and said "Want to dance?" She nodded and they both went to the dance floor. Alissa must have never


    ever danced like this before.


    She was totally out of her senses. She just wanted to forget everything and enjoy her life or you could


    say make it worse than ever. The boy held her by her waist and took her to the side of the club and


    then to the room. He closed the door behind andid her on the bed. He was thinking of so many


    things. Alissa just stared at him and he slowly clipped open her hair. He moved towards her and was


    going to attach his lips to her but within matter of seconds he was on the floor. Alissa looked to her side


    and Eric was there with fury in his eyes. He held the men by his cor and started beating him. Alissa


    wanted to stop him but was unable to do that because she was feeling dizzy and wanted to throw up.


    Eric was continuously throwing punches on him. The manid on the floor, blood was flowing from his


    face. Alissa soon passed out but she do remember someone holding her in his arms.


    She woke up by the sound of some dishes. She opened her eyes and saw that she was not in her


    room. Her head was thumping and she felt sick. She looked at the wall clock and it was 9:18 am. The


    door opened and Eric was there. She slowly recovered her memory and remembered that he broke up


    with her the previous night. He sat in front of her with a ss of water and a medicine.


    "Here. Have it" He said forwarding his hand towards her.


    She didn''t argue and took it. She gulped down the medicine. Eric took the ss and kept it on the


    drawer near him.


    "Why you went therest night?" He asked.


    "Where?" Alissa still couldn''t remember all the things which happenedst night.


    "That club. You were with a boy" He said.


    She closed her eyes to remember and slowly the memories came back. She took a deep breath and


    looked into his eyes.


    "I wanted to live. I wanted to feel free. Away from sadness. Away from myself. Away from everything"


    "So you are going to get drunk and hang out with those drunkards" Eric said in an angry voice.


    "And you are gonna leave me and marry that girl" She shouted.


    "Alissa. I love you. You don''t know how much it hurts. But there is no way now"


    "You might have lost the hope but I haven''t. I will still hold on to our love. I will always cherish it Eric.


    And if we are destined to be together we will be" Alissa said and got up from the bed.


    "Where are you going?" Eric asked.


    "Back home" she said.


    "At least have breakfast with me. Maybe things will get sort up a bit. Pancake is good right?"
