Chapter 376

She was exhausted and without the energy to hail a cab, not to mention her bag and phone had been

    snatched by Hanna’s security earlier.

“My car’s in the lot, maybe I can carry you there?” Hogan offered, noticing Lizetta’s paleplexion.

Lizetta shook her head, “I can walk.”

Despite her determination, Hogan disagreed, “Better not push yourself. Just wait here for a moment.”

With that, he let go of Lizetta and hurried off.

He returned with a wheelchair, but before he could reach her, a towering figure strode towards Lizetta

and, without a word, scooped her up and headed outside, followed closely by a group of men in ck.

Hogan dashed after them, abandoning the wheelchair, but it was toote. Lizetta was already being

whisked away in Remington’s car, leaving behind only Hogan’s coat on the ground.

In the car, Lizetta was seated on Remington’sp, his arms wrapped around her. She didn’t struggle,

though the ce where she’d been injected felt oddly numb, possibly from the stress.

Worried about Joy, she dared not move much. The partition was raised, making the once spacious

    backseat feel ustrophobic.

Remington’s onceforting presence now only added to her extreme irritation. Lizetta attempted to

free herself, prompting Remington to hold her even tighter; head bowed, he asked with concem,

    “What’s wrong? Feeling ufortable?”

Lizetta looked up, her gaze dull, and asked, “Can you let me go, please?”

Remington, feeling a tightness in his chest at her expression, covered her eyes with one hand and

loosened his tie with the other, pleading softly, “Don’t look at me like that.”

Freed from his grasp, Lizetta moved to sit by herself, turning to look out the window and coldly said,

“Take me to Yoli’s. I don’t want to go back with you.”

Remington’s mood darkened at herplete rejection and refusal to even nce his way. He tried

calm his roiling emotions and gently stroked her hair, softly saying, “Come on, let’s go back to Oakridge

    Heights.

He intended to exin that he had arranged for a private doctor to stay at Oakridge Heights, believing

she needed bed rest and medical supervision for a couple of days. He couldn’t trust her safety if she

    went to Ynda’s.

However, before he could finish, Lizetta, seemingly reaching her breaking point, pped his hand away

and turned to mock him callously, “Go back to Oakridge Heights for what? So you can control me as

you want? If you’re not taking me to Yoli’s, then stop the car! Now!”

Her sudden outburst made her pull at the door and bang on the window. Concerned she might hurt

herself, Remington quickly reached out and scooped her back onto hisp, holding her tightly.

As Lizetta struggled in frustration, Remington asked in a deep, troubled voice, “Do you really hate me

    that much?”

“Yes! Let me go. You’ve got what you wanted, whether it’s for a paternity test or matching for something

else, I can’t fight back! Can’t you just leave me alone for now?”

Hearing her words filled with resentment, Remington felt a heavy ache in his heart. He gripped Lizetta’s

chin, forcing her to look at him, his eyes clouded with darkness as he rasped.

“Lizetta, before you convict me, at least give me a chance to defend myself. Even a murderer gets a

chance to prove their innocence. Am I already condemned to death in your eyes?”
