Though the buzz in the helicopter cabin was deafening, the moment Remy uttered those words, it was as if everything fellpletely silent.
To be frank, deep down in Jasper''s heart, he was slowly beginning to rediscover his feelings for Alyssa. In fact, his frozen heart fluttered every time heid eyes on her. Whenever he saw her with Justin, his heart would race uncontrobly, and a throbbing pain would pulse through his head.
If he hadn''t forced himself to suppress his feelings, the violent headache-so intense it felt as if his skull might shatter-would make death seem like mercy. The pain was unbearable, making his limbs cramp and his breathing difficult.
So how could he possibly go against Justin or protect Alyssa?
"Some things aren''t just about letting someone down. It''s not that simple."
Jasper''s eyes dimmed slightly. With practiced precision, he used a pair of tweezers to remove the bullet lodged deep in Remy''s left shoulder. Even so, Remy only furrowed his brow slightly and did not make a sound.
"I don''t even know how long I''ll survive. Plus, Justin is directing most of his attention toward Lyse right now. If I got close to her at this juncture, I would only bring immense trouble upon her.
"If Justin found out that she and I are still close, there''s no telling what other depraved thing that lunatic would do. You''ve worked for him for so many years. I suppose you''re well aware of what he''s like."
Remy lowered his eyes, falling into a heavy silence. He knew Justin''s ways better than anyone. The man was aplete psychopath-a perverted, maniacal demon.
Jasper finished dressing Remy''s wound. Suddenly, his voice turned grim. "There are a few things I''d like to rify with you."
Remy, his lips pale, replied, "I was going to tell you even if you didn''t ask."
He had to share everything he knew about Justin and Sheryl. He couldn''t be sure if he would live to see
tomorrow, let alone what other
disasters awaited him.
Jasper steadied his breath. With a sharp gaze, he asked, "Is Sheryl actually Liana Gardner?"
Remy nodded. "Yes, she is. Justin picked her up off the streets of Mosgravia, where she was
homeless and barely clothed. H
gave her a brand-new appearance, taught her medicine gave her a fake" identity, and had her undergo full-body stic surgery. She even had surgery to change her voice.
"He made her cut off everything from her past, and she was reborn as someone else entirely-someone he kept under his thumb."
"As his lover?"
"Justin might be a psychotic demon, but Sheryl being his lover? Not even close."
A subtle smirk shed across Remy''s face as he continued, "She''s just like me a weapon he keeps under his control. Once he has used her and squeezed her dry, he would abandon her like a piece of trash, or even destroy her."
Jasper nodded, pondering deeply. Truth be told, he was simply seeking confirmation
of the hypotheses he and Alyssa had formed.
As a sharp and intelligent woman, Alyssa had already suspected that Sheryl was Liana. Thus, she had advised him to be wary of her.
Though unbeknownst to Alyssa, there was no way he could ever be interested in any other woman other than Alyssa herself.
