Justin sat by the window with his eyes closed, basking in the warm, golden sunlight.
His fairplexion and chiseled face gave him an air of nobility and an effortlessly captivating charm. If Alyssa hadn''t already known the truth about him, she, too, might have been fooled by his appearance.
"Mr. Beckett," she greeted as she walked up to him.
Justin slowly opened his eyes, lifting his chin to meet her gaze with a gentle intensity.
"Ms. Alyssa, have you decided to ept my suggestion?" he asked.
"Be honest with me—are there any side effects to this medication?" Alyssa''s voice was hoarse, strained with emotion.
Her eyes reddened as she continued, "I am not going to put my father''s life at risk."
Justin shook his head slightly. "I''m sorry, Ms. Alyssa. The only thing I can guarantee is that your father will survive. I can''t promise anything beyond that."
Alyssa balled her hands into fists.
"I know you don''t trust me. But right now, you have no other choice." Justin''s gaze deepened, his brown eyes like an endless abyss. "Moreover, Mr. Winston has never been my target. I don''t benefit from hurting him at all. Besides, he is your father. For your sake, I do hope that he recovers too."
His words were moving, but Alyssa''s heart remained unmoved.
"Then who is your target? Is it Jasper?" she asked coldly, ignoring his apparent sincerity.
Justin replied casually, "Jasper isn''t my target. I''m after the person who controls Beckett Group. If he steps down and gives up his im to the heirship, we can still be brothers."
To hell with Justin''s words. Alyssa didn''t believe a single one of his words.
She had no desire to continue the conversation. Every moment spent with this hypocrite suffocated her.
But desperate times called for desperate measures. Justin was the only one who could help Winston now. So Alyssa had no choice but topromise, even if it made her feel ashamed.
"Start with one course of treatment as a trial. If his condition improves, you can decide whether to continue or stop." Justin looked at her, his voice deep and gentle. "It''s entirely up to you."
A few hours after Justin left the hospital, the medication was delivered.
That evening, Mandy and Winston''s two other wives arrived. They, too, learned about the medication Justin had provided. Though everyone feared it might be a scam, they had no choice but to try.
In the end, they administered the medication to Winston. Soon after, his vital signs stabilized. Only his brain activity remained unusually high, so he had to stay in the ICU for observation.
"Dad..."
Alyssa waited outside his ward, tears brimming in her eyes as she looked at Winston, now gaunt and frail.
"Lyse, don''t worry. Good people are
blessed. I believe Dad will pull
through," Jonah said, cing his
vel
hands gently on her trembling
shoulders. After a pause, he
whispered, "Could you... give me a
pill? I want to-"
Alyssa understood immediately. "You want to bring it to Julien for analysis, right?"
"Yeah..."
Jonah nodded, pain etched across his face. "can''t trust Justin. I have no choice but to ask Julien. I know he hates me and doesn''t want to see me but if it''s about Dad, I believe he help."
"Dr. Liverton said that without this medication, Dad might''ve be brain-dead if
he stayed unconscious much longer. It was a critical situation.
"But now that his condition has stabilized, there''s a chance he could regain consciousness if the treatment continues."
Jonah''s eyes widened. "Is the medication really that miraculous?"
Alyssa let out a bitter chuckle. "I was shocked too. As much as I despise Justin, I have to admit that he''s skilled when ites to pharmaceuticals."
They fell silent for a moment. Then Jonah said, "Oh, right. I saw Mandy earlier. She was at the end of the hallway, talking on the phone with a grim expression.
"She seems troubled. You should check on her. I don''t think she''s doing well mentally."
Alyssa nodded, concerned. "Okay. I will."
Meanwhile, Mandy had locked herself in the lounge, speaking on the phone with her personal bodyguard.
"What do you mean you lost them?" she demanded.
"I''m sorry, Mrs. Taylor. I followed that car all the way to Domere
Mountain, but the roads were rol
I''m unfamiliar with the area, and the driver sped off-I lost them."
"You''ve been trailing them for days and finally tracked them down. How could you
mess up at such a critical moment?"
Mandy was so mad that she could almost breathe fire.
"I''m sorry, Mrs. Taylor. I''ll keep searching."
"Forget it. I''ll do it myself next time!"
Just then, a knock came at the door.
"Mandy, may Ie in?" Alyssa asked.
Mandy quickly ended the call, walked over, and opened the door with a faint
smile. "Hey, Lyse."
