Pain Teaches Silent Lessons — Arjun Malhotra 289

    289/291: More Babies

The next day, Althea was having an early breakfast with Gavriel on their balcony.

She would have loved to join Queen Mother Wilma, Princess Ri, and Lady Beatrice to ask about the masquerade ballst night and hear how everything went. But her sensitive pregnancy in the first trimester made it difficult.

More often than not, her stomach would turn during breakfast or even after small meals. Because of that, she decided it was best to eat privately in their bedchamber instead. She didn’t want anyone else to lose their appetite because of her condition.

Gavriel usually stayed with her during meals, unless he was away or attending important meetings. Even then, Melva often insisted on staying behind to keep herpany.

“What is it? Are you feeling sick?” Gavriel asked worriedly when her expression soured the moment she sipped the chicken soup during breakfast.

“I don’t like it,” she murmured weakly.

“But you liked this yesterday,” Gavriel reminded her.

She shrugged and gently rested a hand over her stomach. “I don’t understand it either… my appetite keeps changing. I’ve be so picky with food.”

Gavriel leaned closer toward her stomach and muttered softly, “Baby, why are you so picky? You’re making your mother suffer. You both need nutrition, so behave and help her eat, alright?”

Althea couldn’t help but smile widely.

It had be a habit for Gavriel to talk to their baby, even scolding the child gently whenever she struggled to eat. He was unexpectedly tender in moments like this, and it never failed to surprise her.

Every time, she discovered another side of him she never expected from someone like Gavriel.

He then turned back to her, still looking concerned. “What do you think our child wants to eat? I’ll get it for you. You two need to stay healthy…”

Althea bit her lower lip and then turned outside at the good weather. It was still winter but there was no

    snow that day.

“I want wintermelon and watermelon but it’s probably not avable this season. Also, I’m craving some mango sticky rice,” she timidly hummed.

She wanted to eat thosest night too but she didn’t want to disturb Gavriel’s sleep at all. He was too busy and she knew he needed enough rest.

He had this habit of taking care of her, in that he wanted to personally get and prepare everything she needed and wanted, instead of just asking his men to do it.

“How about this? You like beef,” Gavriel encouraged as he fed her a piece of roasted meat.

Althea dly epted it and began to eat.

“Later, I’ll make you mango sticky rice, and I’ll have someone bring melons from the southern part. They should still be avable there,” he said as he continued feeding her.

At first, she would have argued. She could eat on her own. But Gavriel was persistent in his quiet way. In the end, she simply gave in and let him pamper her, even in the smallest things. Somehow, it always made her heart feel warmer.

“Do you think we’ll have a boy or a girl?” she asked curiously while he cut more meat for her.

“It doesn’t matter,” he replied calmly. “As long as the babies are healthy… and you are well.”

Althea’s eyes widened and she suddenly blurted out, “Babies? You mean we’ll have more than one baby?”

“I think so,” Gavriel said, sounding unsure. Then he added, “It would be nice to have twins… or even triplets. But if your body can’t handle it, then one is fine. We can have more babies

    in the future anyway.”

“Just how many offspring are you nning to have in mind?” she asked, clearly curious.

Gavriel gave a wide grin. “I like a big family, so as many as your body can safely handle.” His expression softened slightly as he added, “But fewer is fine too. Your health will always be my top priority.”

She shrugged helplessly. Her pregnancy was already delicate, and she couldn’t help but worry. It was clear Gavriel wanted a big family, and truthfully, she wanted that too. She only hoped her body would be stronger the next time.

She was startled when Gavriel suddenly gave her a quick, smacking kiss on the lips.

“Don’t think too much about it,” he said softly. “Like I said, your health matters first, Althea.

Having you is more than enough for me, and having babies is just an additional blessing.”

Then he pulled her into a hug and started kissing her neck lovingly. Althea was no longer surprised when he suddenly pulled her onto hisp, making her straddle him.

When his lips found hers, the kiss deepened, drawing a soft moan from her. Two days had already passed since theyst made love. Gavriel had been exercising restraint around her, afraid of losing control and hurting her or the baby inside her.

Although the royal healer had assured them that it was safe to make love, Gavriel didn’t want to take any risks, so he avoided engaging in sexual intimacy too often.

She felt his need, and without hesitation, she ground herself against him, making him groan.

Then she started taking off their clothes while kissing his lips. He used to prefer being in control, her to be under him, buttely, he wanted her to lead more, making sure their pace in lovemaking was always to

She loved how giving he was to her and how he always considered her condition. In return, she also made sure to amodate her husband’s needs and please him, not just physically, but emotionally as

    well.

He still had his temper at times, but he was toning it down and always adjusting for her.

“Althea, I love you so much,” he murmured against her, his voice full of emotion.

She arched toward him, holding him close as she whispered back, “I love you too… so much.”

They kept repeating those words between soft breaths, their voices filled with affection and longing. Althea’s eyes welled with tears from the overwhelming bliss she felt inside.

Everything in her life was moving so smoothly, almost too perfectly, that more often than not, she felt like she was inside a dream. But she knew very well that this was real.

Trials mighte, and problems might arise sooner or in the future. But she was just so grateful to the Almighty God, knowing that things might not be perfect, but with their faith and trust in Him, they always had the strength to move forward and ovee anything together.
