Chapter 308

It didn''t take him long to dig up the truth. Three days ago, Mr. Tyrrell''s ount had logged into the core server. Not only had he changed some of the original medical records, but he''d also forged a fake illegal transfer log.

"The time, the IP address—it all points to theputer in your office. Do you have anything to say for yourself?" Matthew''s voice was calm but cold.

Jon''s legs went weak. He nearly crumpled to the floor. "I... I...”

He was scrambling for an excuse, but in the end, he cracked, his voice shaking. "I didn''t want to. The Barnard family made me do it!

"They said Bruce was in their way. They wanted me to find a reason to get him suspended so the Barnards could do what they needed. They promised they''d clear Bruce''s name once it was over."

Matthew caught a glimpse of two people lingering outside the IT department. He smirked. "Then tell me, what exactly was Bruce getting in the way of?"

Jon stammered, "The Barnards found out that Mr. Ratcliff and his wife were doing IVF at our hospital. They wanted to know if there was something suspicious going on."

    "And?" Matthew pressed.

"So... they told me to try and take over the case. To dig up anything unusual. They seemed to think Mrs. Ratcliff didn''t really want a baby."

Out in the hallway, Sebastian let out a bitterugh and nced at Reese. "See? Even strangers don''t believe you''d actually want to have another child with me, Reese..."

He didn''t get to finish before Jon''s voice carried on from inside. "They also told me to fake Mrs. Ratcliff''s medical report. They wanted Mr. Ratcliff and his wife to start fighting..."

Sebastian didn''t hear the rest. He stared nkly into the office, then turned to Reese.

She just smiled, but there was a sharp edge to it, half mocking, half heartbroken.

"So that''s what our rtionship looks like to everyone else, Sebastian. So fragile that a little trick is enough to break us apart.

"You think I''m not serious about saving Robbie, but you''re not any better than me.

"You''re just using all of this as an excuse to smooth things over between us. You want me to stop talking about divorce for a while, isn''t that right?"

Reese tilted her head, her eyes full of tired sarcasm.

"You don''t love me. You don''t really care about Robbie, either. You''ve even doubted whether he''s your son. Am I wrong?"

Sebastian''s eyes went wide. His throat felt tight. He tried to say something, but Reese kept going.

"Did you really think I was clueless all these years in the Ratcliff family?

"I knew everything. I was just waiting. Waiting for you to finally turn around and see me. But you never did.

"You keep saying you love me. You tell me not to leave. But what have you actually done, Sebastian?

"Even Robbie knows I''m not the one in your heart. That''s why he keeps trying to hurt me. He knows you''d never do anything to stop him."

    Sebastian swallowed hard. He

remembered the moment he saw the medical report, how his first thought was that Reese had cheated

on him how he never even

    considered something else might be

going on And when he saw her with Matthew, he instantly assumed the worst.

Regret washed over him. His voice was raw. "Reese, I''m sorry. I was wrong shouldn''t have used you without proof. I shouldn''t have said those things. I shouldn''t have-"

He stopped. Reese was staring at him with cold, tired eyes.

"You never trusted me, Sebastian. I don''t need your apology," she said quietly.

"All these years, the misunderstandings and the hurt-it was never just this one time."
