Sebastian felt that look cut right through him and was just about to snap back when Bruce spoke up again. "Ms. Meyer, Jon changed your medical report. Someone behind the scenes clearly doesn''t want you and Mr. Ratcliff having another child."
Sebastian''s eyes went wide, stunned. "You mean Reese''s test results were faked?"
Bruce looked genuinely guilty. "I should''ve caught it sooner. I''m sorry. This is on me."
"No way." Sebastian shook his head and actually took a step back. "With our hospital''s system, test results are uploaded straight to the app as soon as theye out. There''s no way anyone could''ve messed with them."
Then something clicked and his expression turned sharp and mocking as he stared at Reese. "So this was your n all along? Did you two set this whole thing up, just to make me believe the report was a fake? That way, you could walk away with the Meyer family''s shares without a fight.
"Reese, you''re really something. Always thinking two steps ahead."
Bruce knew about the n between Reese and Matthew, and he was willing to y along for the sake of national security. But Sebastian''spleteck of trust in Reese still caught him off guard. He started to exin. "Mr. Ratcliff, that''s not " "Don''t bother," Reese broke in, her tone cool. "He''ll know the truth soon enough." She turned to Bruce. "Dr. Nace, think back. Is there anything we missed? Has Jon been acting weirdtely? Or maybe getting close to someone in IT?"
Bruce frowned, thinking hard. Suddenly his eyes lit up. "Actually, yeah. Three days ago, Jon went out of his way to find Mr. Tyrrell from IT. He said he needed some old medical data from years ago, and the two of them were in the office talking for ages.
"At the time, it struck me as odd. The data wasn''t sensitive, so he could''ve just had a nurse request it. No reason to go to Tyrrell himself.
"Now that I think about it, he was probably setting me up from the start, working together with Tyrrell."
"Thanks," Reese said quickly. She pulled out her phone and messaged Matthew, letting him know what Bruce had just told her.
Meanwhile, in the hospital''s IT
department, Matthew was already at
a server, typing fast As soon as h
gor Reese''s message,
as he
gar he pulled up all the server ess logs from the
past three days.
Just then, Jon burst in, clearly in a hurry. His face changed the moment he saw Matthew at the server. He rushed over, trying to block him?
"Who
are you? What gives you the right to go through our hospital s data?
"You''re not allowed back here. You''re messing with our work, and that''s illegal. I''m telling you, leave now or I''ll call the police."
Matthew turned around slowly, his eyes cold as ice. He actually smiled, pulled out his ID, and held it up.
"See this? I''m here on official business. You can file aint if you want, but don''t get in my way."
The second Jon saw the badge, his heart dropped. That was a top-level military investigation pass. Who was this guy?
Jon didn''t say a word, so Matthew just snorted. "Jon, you''re being investigated for faking evidence and framing a colleague. Got anything you want to say?"
Jon''s face turned chalk white, sweat already beading on his forehead. He clenched his jaw and tried to keep it together. "I have no idea what your te talking about
"I didn''t frame Bruce. The illegal data transfer was real. Someone in IT found it and reported it."
“We''ll see about that,” Matthew said, giving Jon onest sharp look before turning back to theputer.
