When Sebastian arrived at ckOak and stepped out of the elevator, he immediately heard people arguing down the hall.
Through the ss doors, he spotted Sofia huddled behind Hank. Hank was
ring at Reese, his voice sharp and loud. "Reese, if you''re going to use Sofia
of something, at least show some proof. What makes you think she''d try to seduce Sebastian?"
"Not everyone''s as scheming and dishonest as you are," he snapped.
From Sebastian''s point of view, Hank looked like he was about to poke Reese right in the face, his words cutting and harsh.
Sebastian''s jaw tightened. He''d never really gotten into the details of Reese''s family before. All he knew was that her childhood had been rough, bouncing from house to house, never really fitting in, and that she''d cut off the Meyer family ages ago.
He never realized Hank could be this unreasonable-so blind to the truth and so obviously partial to Sofia.
How many times had Reese been put through this kind of crap?
Sebastian didn''t want to think about it. The thought made his chest ache, squeezing his heart so tightly he could barely breathe.
He pushed open the door, his footsteps echoing intentionally, his voice carrying ahead of him.
"Mr. Meyer, I get that you care about Sofia. But Reese is your sister too. How can you be so one-sided, so unfair?"
He strode right up and put himself between Reese and Hank, physically blocking Hank from getting any closer. His eyes found Reese''s first.
She met his gaze, her face calm, then looked away almost immediately.
She didn''t know why Sebastian was here, but it was obvious from his actions that he was defending her. She could pretty much guess what he was thinking.
But did it even matter anymore?
People always regret what they''ve lost. She didn''t want this kind of affection—not
now.
Sebastian felt a sharp pain at the way she avoided his eyes. He turned to Hank, his voice cold as ice. "You took my family''s business and spreadit around which ended up putting my grandpa in the hospital. I haven''t even begun to deal with that. And now you''re harassing my wife?"
Hank looked startled, frowning at Sebastian. He clearly hadn''t expected Sebastian to take Reese''s side after everything that had happened with the miscarriage.
At the same time, Sofia went white as a sheet when she saw Sebastian. She remembered the recording he''d caught earlier and started shaking, instinctively shrinking further behind Hank.
Hank forced a stiff smile at Sofia,
trying to reassure her, then turned back to Sebastian. "Mr. Ratcliff, you''ve got it wrong. I had no
intention of getting involved in your private matters But Reese has gone too far this time, constantly using Sofia. I couldn''t just sit back and do nothing."
Sebastian raised an eyebrow. "What exactly is she using Sofia of?"
"She med Sofia for her miscarriage, and now she''s saying Sofia leaked confidential information. But she doesn''t have a single piece of evidence."
Sebastian let out a short, coldugh and was already reaching for the sh drive in his pocket to defend Reese-but someone else spoke up first.
"If you keeps ndering Reese, I won''t hesitate to let him experience ckOak Legal''s work motto.
"At ckOak, we don''t keep ckers around."
Everyone turned to see Matthew, who had slipped into the room without anyone noticing.
He scanned the group with sharp eyes. When he noticed Reese standing next to Sebastian, he frowned slightly, then stepped up, positioning himself protectively between her and Sebastian.
Reese picked up on the gesture but didn''t say a word.
Matthew leaned down with a gentle smile. "Sorry I''mte. I was helping the officers collect evidence. You okay?"
Reese nodded. "I can handle it."
Matthew grinned and turned to set up the projector. "Mr. Meyer, didn''t you just say you didn''t believe Sofia locked Reese in theb and tried to suffocate p?r? Let''s see what really happened."
