Chapter 744: More than one heartbeat

Chapter 744: More than one heartbeat

Casaio slowly flipped through the pages of the file, his eyes scanning the documents one by one. After a moment, he closed the folder and looked up at Ian, a faint crease forming on his forehead.

"What exactly is this?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "You want me to shut down a project where millions of dors have already been invested."

Ian remained standing across the desk, his expression serious.

"Yes," he replied firmly. "Because this is not just about business. It’s about the lives of ordinary people."

Casaio leaned back slightly in his chair, studying him.

"What do you mean by that?" he asked. "Exin."

Ian stepped closer to the desk and gestured toward the file.

"Thend where this project is being constructed was once the homnd of two peaceful packs," he said. "Thepanies involved found a legal loophole and used it to illegally take control of thend."

Casaio’s brows furrowed slightly as he listened.

"The people living there protested for months," Ian continued. "But no one paid attention to them. Now those same people are being forced to leave thend that has been theirs for generations."

Casaio’s brows slowly drew together as he absorbed the information.

"In the face of money and influence, those packs must have been powerless," he said thoughtfully. "Did they at least file an appeal with the council?"

Ian shook his head. "No. Their voices were silenced long before the matter could reach this pce, or even the ears of the Alpha King."

A quiet "Hmm" escaped Casaio as he leaned back in his chair, thinking carefully. For a few seconds, he said nothing, his fingers lightly tapping against the armrest.

    Finally, he spoke again.

"Ian, arrange a meeting with the pack alphas," he said. "I want to hear the truth directly from them."

He paused before adding, "And where have their people gone after being driven off theirnd?"

Ian answered without hesitation. "The alphas had purchased small patches ofnd years ago as a precaution. That is where they have moved their people for now. But thend is far too small to amodate everyone. Many members of the packs are being forced to leave because there simply isn’t enough space."

Casaio’s gaze darkened slightly. This was not how the people of his country were meant to be treated.

"I’ll go to them myself," Casaio said after a moment of thought. "Prepare everything for my departure tomorrow. Speak with Estelle and inform her about it."

"Yes, Your Majesty," Ian replied with a respectful bow before turning to leave the office and carry out the order.

Once he was alone, Casaio leaned back slightly in his chair, his gaze lingering on the documents spread across his desk.

"So many matters happen beyond our sight," he murmured quietly.

He finished signing the important files that required his approval, stacking them neatly before standing up. With the workpleted for the evening, he made his way toward the chamber where Zilia had been waiting for him.

As he entered the drawing room, the servants immediately bowed their heads and quietly stepped out, leaving the space private.

Casaio’s eyes quickly found Zilia standing on the balcony. The soft evening light touched her figure as she turned around upon hearing his footsteps.

"You took quite some time to return," Zilia said calmly.

"I was caught up with work," Casaio replied as he walked toward her.

When he reached her, he wrapped his arms gently around her in a warm embrace.

"Shall we go out now?" he asked softly.

Zilia nodded and slipped her arms around his back, her hand moving gently across it. "Hmm," she said with a small smile. "I’m ready."

They slowly pulled apart from the embrace, yet neither of them moved far. For a moment they simply looked into each other’s eyes.

"Cas," Zilia said softly after a pause, her voice thoughtful. "I think I should visit the doctor."

Casaio immediately grew attentive. "Why?" he asked.

Zilia lowered her gaze briefly before looking back at him. "It might sound strange," she murmured, "but I feel as if there’s more than one heartbeat."

    Casaio blinked in surprise.

"I’m beginning to wonder if... I might be expecting twins."

"What?" Casaio eximed, the calm expression on his face vanishing instantly. "When did you start feeling this? And why are you telling me only now?"

Concern filled his voice as he looked at her carefully.

"You were busy with your duties," Zilia replied gently. "And I only started feeling it this morning. At first I thought it was just my imagination."

She ced a hand lightly on her abdomen.

"But the feeling hasn’t gone away," she added with a smile. "Something feels... different."

"Let’s go now," Casaio said gently as he took Zilia’s hand.

Together they stepped out of the pce and walked toward the waiting car. Once inside, Casaio instructed the driver to take them straight to the hospital.

As the vehicle moved through the pce gates, he quickly checked the file of medical reports he had brought along, making sure he hadn’t forgotten anything important back in the chamber.

    The drive didn’t take long.

Soon they arrived at the hospital, where the staff immediately guided Zilia to the examination room for the ultrasound. Casaio stood beside her while the doctor prepared the machine.

A few moments passed as the doctor carefully studied the monitor.

Then a bright smile spread across her face.

"Well," the doctor said warmly, looking at Zilia first, "you were right about sensing more than one heartbeat, Mrs. Sinir."

    Zilia held her breath, waiting.

"But there is something more," the doctor continued as she turned slightly toward Casaio. "Prince Casaio, your wife isn’t expecting twins."

She paused before delivering the news.

"She’s expecting triplets. You’re going to be blessed with three pups."

Casaio’s eyes widened instantly, shock and happiness shing across his face at the same time.

"Triplets?" he repeated in disbelief. "Three...?"

He let out a breathlessugh. "Is that even possible? Not one... not two... but three?"

His gaze immediately shifted to Zilia.

Tears had already begun to gather in her eyes as she stared at the screen, overwhelmed by the news.
