"How am I supposed to help? It''s two hundred million, not two hundred dors!
Where am I supposed to get that kind of money for him?" Karina felt like her parents were driving her insane.
"You don''t have it, but doesn''t Noah? Just go home, talk to him, and have him pay for it. Kevin is his brother-inw. It''s only natural for a man to help his wife''s brother," Mrs. White said, her tone as matter-of-fact as her husband''s.
But Karina knew there was no way Noah would help Kevin.
Noah had always disapproved of her getting involved in her family''s messes, and he especially despised Kevin, his useless, troublemaking brother-inw.
Back when they were newlyweds and their rtionship was still good, Noah had gently suggested she stop interfering in her family''s affairs. Later, after Kevin caused a huge problem that nearly implicated the Thompson family, Noah told her directly that if she wanted their marriage to work, she had to stay out of her family''s business.
Over the years, they had argued countless times over the White family, and what little affection they had for each other had long since evaporated.
Karina knew with certainty that Noah would never pay off Kevin''s debt.
Karina never dared to let her parents know that her rtionship with Noah was strained, so she could only force herself to say, "Noah doesn''t have that much money either. He might be a president at the Thompson Group, but at the end of the day, he''s just a high-level employee...”
Before Karina could finish, Mr. White exploded with anger. He mmed his hand on the table and roared, "Making one excuse after another! I think you just don''t want to help your brother! You ungrateful wretch! If you won''t even help your own brother, then don''t evere back! I''ll act as if I never had a daughter!"
After Mr. White yed the bad cop, Mrs. White stepped in as the good cop. "Darling, calm down. Karina has always been a dutiful daughter and she loves her brother dearly. She won''t abandon him."
Mrs. White then shot Karina a look. “Karina, don''t make your father angry. You need to find a way to resolve your brother''s situation as soon as possible."
Karina''s eyes reddened, and she was so cornered by her parents that she couldn''t speak. After a long moment, she choked out, "I''ll try to figure something out."
With that, she turned, grabbed her purse from the sofa, and took out her phone, finally noticing the missed calls from Noah.
"Noah took Nic out, so they should be back by now. I need to go home."
"Then you should go. But don''t forget about your brother''s problem," Mrs. White reminded her.
Mr. White nodded. "No matter what, you gave the Thompson family az granddaughter-the eldest granddaughter at that For the
child''s sake, Noah can''t just stand by and do nothing."
Karina felt utterly miserable. Not wanting to say another word, she grabbed her purse and hurried out.
She drove home, and the moment she walked through the door, Nic flew into her arms like a little bird.
"Mommy, I missed you so much! Did you miss Nic?"
"Of couKarinany missed her baby
Nic," Karina said, dropping her
purse to pull her daughter into a tight hug, kissing her again and again.
When Noah saw Karina return, his attitude was cold. He handed the child over to
her and went to his study to work.
Karina took Nic back to her room, and the little girl chattered on about all the fun she''d had over the past two days.
Distracted by Kevin''s massive
gambling debt, Karina was only
half-listening. But when Nic
mentioned the name Bruce, Karna,
immediately became alert.
"What Bruce?"
