"They''re health tonics from Mom. She thinks I''m too thin to help you expand the family, so she wants me to bulk up. I didn''t expect there to be so much either."
Yvonne finished with a helpless shrug.
Bet couldn''t help but chuckle. He then looked at the servants and instructed, "Put everything in the trunk."
The servants worked quickly, efficiently packing the tonics into the trunk until it waspletely full. Emma had truly spared no expense to make sure Yvonne was well- nourished.
Once the servants closed the trunk, Bet got in the car with Yvonne and they drove off.
The car left the Thompson family estate, smoothly merging onto the main road and heading toward Cherry Bay.
As they drove, Bet focused on the road ahead while Yvonne, in the passenger seat, spoke slowly, "I wonder if Mom will argue with Dad after we left. After all, Dad spent over fifty million to clean up the mess that illegitimate son, Eden, made."
"The money doesn''t really matter; money is the one thing the Thompson family doesn''tck. But there will definitely be an argument. After Eden caused such a huge mess, my mother will certainly take the opportunity to kick him while he''s down."
Bet said coolly, his hands on the steering wheel.
Yvonne nodded and sighed softly. Then she added, "Everything about that incident with Eden today seemed fishy."
"Oh?" Bet raised an eyebrow with a slight smile, as if to say, "I''m all ears."
Yvonne exined, "The Powells aren''t stupid, so why would they target Eden? He''s an illegitimate son with no power or influence, and he could never marry their daughter. There''s no real benefit for them. If they were going to target someone, it should have been you, right?"
The smile in Bet''s eyes deepened. "My Vonnie is as sharp as ever. The person Nelly and Mignon were trying to target was, indeed, me."
The Powells'' methods wereughably clumsy. If Bet were that easy to plot against, he would have been dead many times over.
But the Powell mother and daughter were far too arrogant.
"The Powells bribed Cindy to get into the Thompson house and try to drug to bother to bother
them and was just gong With to me. I wasn''t going to have
them thrown out. But Eden wanted to see me made a fool of, so of
course, I had to oblige him."
Yvonne pieced it together. "So, that Cindy was a double agent? She was pretending
to be on Eden''s side, but she was actually working for you."
"Mhm," Bet nodded in confirmation. "It seems nothing gets past you."
"I was the top graduate of the police academy, you know. I''ve even done undercover work. These little tricks can''t escape my eagle eyes," Yvonne said, lifting her chin proudly.
With one hand steady on the wheel, Bet reached over with the other and gently pinched her chin.
After discussing Eden, Yvonne brought up the argument she had witnessed between Noah, Cynthia, and Karina in front of the vi.
She recounted what little she had heard, adding her own spections, and gave Bet the general picture.
Bet''s reaction was much like Emma''s-indifferent, as if it had nothing to do with him.
Bet and Noah were close
brothers, and if Noah were in real
trouble he would help without
hesitation But he had no interest in
a drama about two women fighting over one man.
After all, Noah was his brother, and that would never change. Who his sister-inw was didn''t really matter.
"Karina has no leverage. She has
almost no chance of winning
against Cynthia. However, Cynthia<pes from the prestigious Scott family so she won''t make things too ugly As for when karina steps down, that all depends on when the White family finally implodes."
