Chapter 489

The attending physician in the emergency room was already waiting for them.

Bet carried Yvonne into the examination room. After a quick check-up, the doctor wrote out some orders for tests.

A nurse performed an ECG and drew blood from Yvonne.

The results came back in half an hour. Yvonne had a viral flu, which had caused a high fever.

The weather had been coldtely, and many people had contracted the virus, with high fever and coughing being themon symptoms.

Yvonne was dazed from the fever. She vaguely felt Bet carry her into a hospital room, and then a nurse came to set up an IV drip.

Yvonne had been fearless since she was a child, but she was terrified of needles.

When she saw the nurse, she instinctively tried to hide her hands.

Bet sat by the bed, holding her and covering her eyes with his warm hand.

Yvonne''s world went dark, and she could only feel Bet taking her hand. Whether it was because the fever had numbed her senses or because the nurse was exceptionally skilled, Yvonne didn''t feel any pain.

When Bet removed his hand from her eyes, the IV needle was already inserted in the back of her hand, and the fluid was slowly dripping through the tube into her body.

"If you''re not feeling well, just get some sleep. The doctor added some fever- reducing medicine to the IV. You''ll feel better after you sleep and the fever breaks," Bet said, gently stroking Yvonne''s forehead, coaxing her like a child.

Yvonne nodded obediently. Her eyelids felt heavy, and she fell asleep not long after closing her eyes.

She slept deeply, all the way from morning until evening.

When Yvonne woke up, Bet was still sitting by her bed, in the same position, as if he hadn''t moved at all.

"You''re awake?” Bet''s handsome lips curved into a smile when he saw her open her eyes, his gaze incredibly gentle.

"Have I... been asleep for a long time?" Yvonne asked as she rubbed her eyes, her voice raspy.

Bet stood up, walked to the water dispenser, and filled a cup halfway with warm water. "Drink some water before you talk."

Bet gently and carefully helped Yvonne drink.

Probably due to the fever, her throat was dry and sore. She drank half the cup in one go and felt a little better.

“Did I sleep for a long time?" Yvonne asked again, frowning as she nced at the window. It was almost dark outside.

"Yes, for almost a whole day,"

Bet said, picking up a thermometer from the nightstand "We checked your temperature night after the IV drip finished, and it only went down a little. The doctor said we need to check it again tonight."

    "Okay." Yvonne took the thermometer.

Three minutester, the thermometer showed her temperature had dropped again it was possible the fever could return during the night.

    Bu

This strain of the flu was quite severe and could cause recurring fevers.

Yvonne''s fever had subsided, but she had sweated a lot, soaking the top of her hospital gown.

Bet asked a nurse for a new set, which was delivered promptly.

Yvonne took the clothes into the bathroom, while Bet stood guard right outside

the door, talking to her from time to time.

"Can you manage on your own?"

    "Do you need my help?"

"Call me if you feel dizzy."

Before Bet could finish, Yvonne had already changed and opened the door.

She looked up at him with an expression that was hard to describe.

Bet chuckled, ruffled her hair, and asked, “Are you hungry?"

"Yes." Yvonne had only eaten a slice of bread and had some milk for breakfas

    t and hadn''t eaten a 1

else all day She was indeed hungry.

Bet picked up his phone and walked out of the room, presumably to buy food.
