Chapter 434

Yvonne sat up on the sofa and watched Bete in. The first thing she asked was, "How''s Ynda?"

“She''s fine,” Bet replied as he took off his jacket.

Yvonne remained on the sofa, looking up at him.

The crystal chandelier overhead was bright, its light tracing the handsome contours of his face, making them appear even more defined and striking.

"Bet, were you dating Ynda to investigate the Walker family?" Yvonne asked suddenly, her hands fiddling with what looked like a small box.

Bet''s hand, holding his jacket, paused. He then saw that she was holding the box for the antidepressants he used to take.

He casually tossed his jacket onto the back of the sofa and sat down across from her. Leaning forward slightly, he reached out and gently ruffled her hair.

"My Yvonne is as smart as ever."

Yvonne''s thickshes lowered as she stared at the medicine box in her hands.

She remembered what Helen had once told her.

After her death, Bet had fallen into a long period of despair. He suffered from severe depression and needed a lot of medication to cope.

It wasn''t until he met and started dating Ynda that his condition improved, and he no longer relied on the drugs.

At the time, Yvonne had believed Bet had fallen in love with someone else. She had been heartbroken, even jealous.

But thinking about it now, he must have discovered that the Walker family was involved that they were inextricably linked to her death.

He had found a reason to live on: to finish what she had started.

All these years, Bet had put himself in the line of fire, just as she had done. He carried the weight of everything, pushing forward for the belief in his heart.

Yvonne was suddenly overwhelmed with a deep ache for him and wrapped her arms around him. She tried to hold back, but tears streamed down her face, falling onto his shoulder, one after another, hot against his skin.

"Why are you crying again? Silly girl, I''m just doing what I have to do," Bet said, using his long fingers to wipe the tears from her cheeks.

"Ben, did I ruin your n?" Yvonne asked, her voice choked with emotion.

By breaking up with Ynda for her, Bet''s investigation into the Walker family had likely been forced to a halt.

"Even if you hadn''t appeared, my investigation had already hit a dead end. Vincent is very cautious. Unless I married Ynda, he would never consider me one of his own and would never let me get close to the Walker family''s core operations."

Over the years, Bet had dated Ynda, allowing her to throw her weight around as the future Mrs.

    Thompson and providing various et

conveniences for the Walker family. He let them splurge at the

Thompson Group''s malls, hotels, and restaurants, creating the illusion that he was on their side.

But Vincent was incredibly careful and never let Bet near any core secrets. He repeatedly hinted that only by marrying Ynda would he hand over the Walker family''s affairs to him.

But Bet could never marry Ynda.

Using Yvonne''s return as a catalyst, he broke up with Ynda. It was time to untangle the Thompson and Walker families anyway, to prevent the Thompsons from being dragged down when the Walkers eventually fell.

"When I was undercover with Colin Gonzalez, I found out he was using his transportationpany for smuggling. Later, when I joined

Yvonne summarized her findings from over the years, then frowned and added, “If the Walker family is the one protecting all of them, then Mr. Walker deserves to die a thousand deaths."
