Nathan watched Wendy go, her pale face evidence of her illness.
His eyes turned red. He regretted it. He truly regretted everything.
"Wendy," Nathan called out, his gaze following her retreating figure.
Seeing the lingering attachment in Nathan''s eyes, Sophia sneered. She couldn''t ept it. How could Nathan still be hung up on Wendy at a time like this?
She yelled, "Wendy, you were supposed to have taken a slow-acting poison! Why are you perfectly fine?"
Now that everything was out in the open, she wanted to know the truth.
Wendy was the one who was supposed to be dead. Why had it turned out this way for her?
She was the one who should have been enjoying the wealth and glory of the Don family.
Wendy turned to face her. Under Sophia''s furious and expectant gaze, she exined slowly, "It''s simple. I had already figured out Nathan''s n. You wanted to send me to a mental institution and cripple my children so Joanna could take over mypany. Your ambitions were exposed far too quickly. I saw it all, so I switched the medicine."
"Nathan, you were the one who took the rest of the doses. While it wasn''t enough to drive you insane, it did damage your health. You already had issues with high blood pressure and cholesterol. Before I knew the truth, I was trying to help you manage your health."
"Then you moved in with Sophia and spent your days indulging in a rich, artery- clogging diet that finished what the medicine started. Your bodypletely broke down."
Nathan, Joanna, and Sophia were all in a state of shock.
Joanna couldn''t ept it, mumbling to herself, "So, we were the fools all along."
Wendy watched their expressions, satisfied.
Nathan and Sophia, in particr, looked ashen-faced.
Silence hung in the air for a few seconds before Sophia broke it with a hysterical scream. "This is infuriating! Absolutely infuriating! Nathan! Joanna! Weren''t you two supposed to be so smart?"
"How did things end up like this? We''ve been theughingstocks this entire time!"

Nathan struck Sophia across the face, his eyes cold as ice. "Sophia, wasn''t I good enough to you? more could you possibly want? Everything Wendy owns is the result of a century of her family''s blood, sweat and legacy What right do you have to get it without lifting
finger?"
"Ha ha..." Hearing this, Sophiaughed as if it were the greatest joke in the world.
Herughter was filled with scorn.
"Nathan, after a few years of living in
high society, you really started to see yourself as one of them. Don''t forget, you were the one who coveted Wendy''s assets all along."
"You think I wronged you? You''re a man who would abandon his own biological daughter. Who wouldn''t be afraid of you?"
"Even a beast knows better than to devour its own, but you... you''re worse than an animal."
Sophia sneered at his pretense of being a decent person.
Nathan thought back to the terrible things he had done in his youth and felt a pang of regret.
No one is made of stone. We all know deep down who truly cares for us and who''s just using us.
When it came to being a devoted child, Natalie was far more so than Joanna.
He still remembered how carefully Natalie had tried to please him when she first came back.
She would prepare his favorite
breakfast and help them manage their health. But for Joanna, and for

Nathan''s eyes narrowed as he stared at Sophia. It was all because of this woman.
A lethal coldness red in his aged, weary eyes.
It was enough to make Sophia take a step back in fear.

But Nathan said nothing. Instead, he helped his mother up. "Mom, let''s go. We''re going home."
