Cherry gave them a triumphant smirk, as if to say, *You''d better learn from me.*
"Cherry, are you absolutely sure you didn''t tell Hannah?"
Deep down, Lionel still wasn''t convinced.
If no one had told Hannah, how could she have possibly shown up there? Was it all just a coincidence?
If Hannah hadn''t been there, things wouldn''t have escted to this point.
He was incredibly frustrated, with no idea how to face Hannah now. If he didn''te up with a solution soon, he was going to be stuck with the me.
He really didn''t want to take the fall for this. He hadn''t done anything wrong, so why was this happening?
"You know what, Lionel? Why don''t I call Hannah right now, and we can all discuss this together? How about that?"
"You used to misunderstand Hannah all the time, teaming up with your mistress to bully her. Now that she''s blocked you and wants nothing to do with you, you''ve got no one to pick on, so you''ve moved on to me, is that it? Do you have some kind of quota for tormenting people that you have to meet, or else you''ll get zapped by lightning?"
Cherry couldn''t believe how dense he was, calling her up to ask if she was behind it. After hearing her out, Lionel had to admit his theory sounded a bit far-fetched. But besides that, he couldn''t think of any other exnation.
After a few seconds of silence, he asked, "Do you have any ideas?"
"I''m sorry, are you speaking English? Because I have no idea what you''re talking about."
Cherry was genuinely baffled for a moment, unable to process his question.
"You''re asking me for ideas? You mean you want me to help you guess why Hannah was there?"
She pretended to think for a moment. "Hmm, maybe you two are so deeply in love that you have a psychic connection. She sensed you were going, so she went too."
"Is that what you want me to say? Or maybe Hannah bugged your room. Tell you what, I can ask Hannah toz meet me. I''ll tell her it''s important. Then you can show up. When she
ts mad just say you paid me off. How''s that? I''ll sacrifice myself for you."
After that, Lionel hung up.
Cherry held the phone to her ear, calling his name a few times. After confirming he was gone, she burst outughing.
Beside her, Samuel was already doubled over, ughing uncontrobly.
"Damn, is there something seriously wrong with him? Would any sane personask.those questions? I can''t believe he suspected you. But to be fair, suspecting you was the right move."
"You were a valid suspect. He just never would have guessed that you also bribed a nurse. Are you sure she''s reliable? She''s not going to sell you out, is she?"
Thinking back on Lionel''s string of correct, yet unprovable, usations, he found it hrious. But in the end, Lionel had brought it all on himself.
If it weren''t for his actions, they never would have resorted to this.
"Don''t worry, the nurse is a friend of a friend, paid her more than
l.ne
enough, and she''s very tight-lipped. She never betray me. Rxo everyone. Just enjoy the show.
