Cherry''s eyes lit up when he mentioned giving her more resources. She raised an eyebrow and said with a smirk,
"Since you put it that way, it would be rude of me not to give you something. But this piece of information is extremely valuable. You''ll definitely think it''s a bargain-worth more than any resources you could offer."
If he didn''t know her so well, he would have thought she was bluffing.
What information could possibly be more important than resources? By his calctions, every deal he''d made with her had been a loss on his end.
But to get any information about Hannah, he was willing to take the loss. He had no other choice.
As Cherry had said before, finding another informant as good as her was practically impossible.
"Would you stop acting like you''re getting the short end of the stick? Cooperation is supposed to be fair, but let''s be real, this isn''t cooperation. We''re just using each other, and when has that ever been fair?"
Cherry caught the look in his eyes and knew what he was thinking. After teasing him a bit, she reached into her bag, pulled out the letter, and tossed it onto the bed in front of him as if it were trash.
"I know I turned you down yesterday-stealing is, after all, immoral. But what can I say? The stars aligned. Hannah just left this lying around. It would have been a crime not to grab it, don''t you think?"
Cherry raised an eyebrow. "Take a look. But be quick about it, I need to put it back before Hannah notices it''s gone."
At first, Lionel didn''t register what she had thrown at him. It took him a few seconds to realize what it was.
"You actually got the letter?" Lionel asked, his voice filled with disbelief.
"Don''t use the word ''stole.'' I simply picked it up. She left it there, and I took it. Understand? It wasn''t stealing Don''t make it sound so ugly. never steal: Got it? Now hurry up and read it. Read every word carefully so you can''t say I''m lying to you again. I''m not illiterate."
Lionel reached for the letter. But just as he was about to open it, a thought struck
him, and he looked at Cherry with suspicion.
"Did you open this? Did you read what''s inside?"
"I grabbed it, stuffed it in my bag, ? and brought it straight to you. Why would read it already saw it yesterday. Don''t tell me you think I lied yesterday and just swapped it with a fake to cover my tracks."
Hearing his absurd question, Cherry rolled her eyes dramatically.
"Are you insane? Why are you so paranoid? If you can''t trust me, then we have no reason to work together. I can live without your resources, whether you can find another informant as brilliant as me. well, that''s a serious problem for you."
He hadn''t been this cautious before. It seemed that growing half a brain had made him paranoid.
She almost wished he was still the same idiot from before. Dealing with fools was much easier; she could have tricked him out of even more resources.
Her argument seemed to convince Lionel that she probably wouldn''t do something like that.
He slowly opened the envelope and took out the letter inside.
