As Hannah said the words, she couldn''t help but let out a small, bitterugh.
Listening to it now, the demand seemed so absurd. And yet, she had agreed to it, even thinking it was perfectly reasonable at the time.
It was true what they said: when you''re deep in love, you''ll agree to anything, no matter how irrational.
A reporter shouted, "Ms. Green, do you still love Mr. Rosenberg?"
Hannah shook her head without hesitation. "He stopped loving me first."
A collective gasp went through the crowd.
Of course. Lionel had cheated on her, and the mistress had unted it in her face. Even the most devoted person would have reached their breaking point.
She must have suffered a terrible injustice, holding on for so long, only to be met with more disappointment and pain. This public deration was clearly ast resort.
"Ms. Green, what is the purpose of your post? Is it just to inform the public about your marriage and his affair?"
Hannah shook her head again.
"I just want a divorce. He is deliberately refusing to sign the papers. Since we can''t part amicably, I''m left with no choice but to burn it all down. But make no mistake, I will get this divorce."
The reporters asked many more questions, and Hannah, true to her word, answered them for a full thirty minutes before leaving.
That night, back in her room, a bold idea began to form in Hannah''s mind.
At the factory.
Lionel walked in, looking utterly defeated. Just like yesterday, all eyes were on him the moment he entered.
This time, however, his secretary was already waiting for him at his office door.
"What is it?"
The secretary hesitated, ncing from Lionel to the closed office door and back again, before steeling herself.
"Mr. Rosenberg, it''s better if you see for yourself."
She really couldn''t bring herself to say it.
Lionel''s expression darkened as he walked toward his office.
He opened the door and saw the person sitting on his sofa. His pupils contracted in shock.
"Hannah."
"Mr. Rosenberg, you must be incredibly busy in your new position, arriving at this hour," Hannah said, her tone light and mocking.
Seeing Hannah finally appear before
him, Lionel felt a surge of both surprise and joy, but it was quickly followed by a powerful wavef dread.
He took a deep breath and sat down
opposite her skill
tentatively,
to catch
didn''t juste here t
did
you? There''s something else?"
Hannah nodded but remained silent, a faint, unreadable smile on her face.
"Are you going to make me guess what you''re here for?"
Hannah still didn''t speak, merely nodding again.
A strong sense of foreboding washed over Lionel. He opened his mouth to speak,
then swallowed his words.
Hannah watched his repeated
hesitations and finally let out a short, sharpugh: "You already know why I''m here Why don''t you just say it? You were the one who brought it up, a month ago. Has it really be that hard for you to say the word?"
Divorce.
She was here to talk about the divorce. He knew it.
That was the only thing left in Hannah''s mind. She felt nothing for him anymore; otherwise, she would never have done what she did yesterday.
After a long moment of deliberation, Lionel finally said, "I''ve told you before, I will not divorce you. Absolutely not!"
