Warren and Juniper locked eyes, a powerful tension crackling between them, neither willing to be the first to back down.
"Don''t fight! Please don''t fight." Sensing the hostile atmosphere, Celine immediately stepped between them, ying the role of peacemaker.
Warren was seething, but when he saw the worried look on Celine''s face, he forced himself to stay rational. "You should wear a mask," he said to Juniper. "Celine has a bit of a cold and her immune system is very weak. Outsiders can be a risk to her."
Celine liked his face, thought he was handsome. With a mask on, let''s see how the doctor would work his charms.
Outsiders? Hearing that word, Juniper''s lips curled into a sarcastic sneer. Who the real outsider was remained to be seen.
"Fine."
Wearing a mask would make it easier for her to talk to Celine, so Juniper was happy toply.
Warren gave Juniper onest deep, reluctant look before leaving. "Celine, I''ll be waiting for you right outside."
After closing the door, he immediately sat down in front of the monitors, his eyes glued to therge screen, terrified of missing any detail of the doctor seducing Celine.
Aside from the eye contact, there was no other inappropriate behavior. Whatever. He was going to gouge those eyes out sooner orter.
"Celine," Juniper began, her voice raspy from her disguise as she nced at the security camera. "Do you remember anything from before?"
"Before?" Celine''s bright eyes blinked in confusion as she looked at Juniper, not quite understanding. "What is ''before''?"
Juniper paused, pressing her lips together before continuing, "Like... mom and dad, brothers and sisters... maybe a younger sister?"
"Sis...?"
At the word "sister," Celine''s confused expression instantly lit up. A faint smile graced her lips as she pointed excitedly at Juniper. “Sis... sister.”
"What?" Juniper''s heart skipped a beat. Her lips moved with difficulty, her voice dropping to a whisper, so faint it felt like a dream, unreal.
"You. My sister," Celine said again, pointing at Juniper. “Sister.”
Sister? Was she calling her sister?
"Celine, can you show me some of your photos?" Juniper asked softly, fighting to contain the overwhelming emotion rising within her.
"Okay, okay!” Celine nodded happily and pulled out her phone. Before she could even open the photo album, Juniper saw the wedding photo on her lock screen.
The man was Warren. The blissfully happy woman in his arms... her features, her expression, were a near perfect match for Ebony Ex So she really was in disguise. The girtin the photo was her true face.
If she was only fifty percent sure before, Juniper was now ny percent certain.
The supposeddy of the ind was her long-lost sister. Which one, she didn''t know yet.
“Juniper, look, look!" Celine opened her photo album and started showing her pictures one by one.
Juniper watched quietly, recognizing the familiar family resemnce in her eyes and expressions. Her own eyes started to well up. There was no happier "ident" in the World than this.
"Juniper, are you crying?" Seeing Juniper''s reddened eyes, Celine''s smile vanished. She raised a hand to wipe away her tears. Don''t cry I won''t let my husband be mean to you. If he''s mean, I''ll hit him."
"No." Juniper shook her head, gently stopping Celine''s hand. “I''m not crying," she
said softly. "The wind just hurt my eyes."
"Really?" Celine looked at her skeptically, then picked up the cake beside her and opened it. "Mango cake. For you."
