?Chapter 1093:
Jerry remained silent. The scowl carved deep into his features said enough. Only now did he realize why Evelyn had declined to seek help from Jeffry before.
Aria’splexion had turned ghostly, seething at her daughter’s antics.
A nce at Jolie was all Evelyn managed before she turned away, unable to meet Jolie’s eyes. Having burned every bridge with the Harper family, her embarrassment was only made worse by Jolie’s presence. Lingering for even one more second felt unbearable.
Evelyn hastily said to her parents, “Let’s talk things through once we’re home. Let’s leave.”
Aria, lips parted to say something, barely got a word out before Evelyn pulled her along, cutting her off.
Evelyn knew if her parents discovered she’d shed with Jolie after the divorce, it would only mean a harsher lectureter.
Only after the Morgans had gone did Elena finally descend the staircase, taking her time with every step.
At this point, serenity had returned to Jolie’s features. ncing up, she said to Elena in a soft voice, “You’re up. Why don’t you have a bite first?”
Ever since Elena’s return from the base, the Harper kitchen had always kept food ready and waiting, no matter the hour. Hot meals had be a quietfort she could always count on.
Taking her seat at the table, Elena began to eat.
As Elena lifted her fork, Jolie asked, “Edgewing’s partnership with the institute is back on track. Do you need to make a trip to the Azure Dragon Unit Base before the year wraps up?”
A simple shake of the head was Elena’s reply. “No, there’s no need for me to go.” She’d already gathered every piece of data she needed, so there was no point in making the trip.
Jolie’s smile warmed. “Christmas is just around the corner. Since it’s your first one with us, I want this year to feel special. Would you help me pick out decorations and supplies?”
Christmas? Elena had almost forgotten about this holiday. Back in Foiclens, the Reeds barely paid any attention to it. Everyone went their own way, and a meal usually meant takeout—never a proper celebration.

“Sure,” Elena replied, giving her consent without hesitation.
Elena had just put down her fork when Javier burst into the dining room, all enthusiasm and energy. “Elena! Perfect—you’re here! You’ve got toe see my show tonight!”
Javier had rushed over. It had been far too long since hest saw Elena, each day dragging like msses. The instant his final exams concluded, anticipation coursed through his veins, and he hastily made this trip.
“Elena, my school’s throwing this g, and I’m performing,” Javier said, his voice carrying barely contained excitement. “Would youe watch me?” Their rtionship had been blossoming beautifully, each conversation weaving them closer together.
“What time?” Elena’s curiosity sparked.
“Tonight,” Javier responded, hope threading through his eagerness.
Elena’s evening stretched empty before her, so she found herself nodding. “Alright. When do you go on?”
Javier’s entire face transformed, light dancing in his eyes. “Nine sharp! You have to be there, promise me?”
