Chapter 1063

    ?Chapter 1063:

Several beats of silence hung between them before Kason finally asked, “Are you nning to see Wesley?”

Elena zipped up her backpack and slung it over one shoulder. “Who’s asking—Major General Garrett, or just Kason?”

She kept her voice cool, and Kason picked up on the distance. If he wore his uniform in this conversation, she’d never offer the truth. “I figured we were friends,” he replied quietly.

Elena let that stand—she didn’t disagree. Given that, she saw no reason to hide anything. “Yes. I’m going to see Wesley,” she replied honestly.

A warning lingered on Kason’s tongue, but he bit it back. He knew Elena’s loyalty ran too deep to let Wesley face trouble alone. So instead, he offered the only words that fit. “Be careful.”

He took the wheel himself, piloting the military jeep straight to the Spencer Group’s headquarters. That te, stamped with 0000, was all anyone needed to recognize his rank and authority.

No obstacles slowed their journey—the roads seemed to open up just for them. Pulling up to the grand entrance of the Spencer Group building, the jeep drew curious nces. Ste happened to be nearby, hoping to find Wesley, when her eyesnded on the distinctive vehicle. A furrow creased her brow. Since when did someone with this much influence roam the?

Her musings ended as soon as the door swung open and Elena stepped out.

Without a word, the jeep rolled away, leaving no time for questions.

A scornful look settled on Ste’s face. Arms folded tight, she swept her gaze over Elena with open contempt. “Look at you—climbing out of some man’s car and waltzing in here like you belong. Really scraping the bottom of the barrel. If you’ve managed to snag a powerful new lover, why bothering here? Let me make this clear. Only I can help Wesley now. Take the hint and let go.”

Ste didn’t expect Elena to be so short-sighted. The Spencer Group was in trouble, and Elena was already chasing after another backer. No decent man would fall for someone so calcting.

Yet, as Ste mulled it over, a new sense of confidence bloomed. Elena’s antics could only make her own loyalty stand out all the more—her presence beside Wesley during this storm would prove her worth. In time, Wesley would finally open his eyes and realize someone like Elena had never deserved him in the first ce. Only she, the mayor’s daughter, was worthy of standing at Wesley’s side. A smug glint curled her lips as self-importance took over.

Elena couldn’t begin to guess what kind of daydream had put such a ridiculous look on Ste’s face. She sliced right through Ste’s self-importance. “If you can’t think before you speak, shut up. No point parading your foolishness around here.”

    Updates loaded now at gα?ησνe?s

A sharp re was Ste’s answer. “What did you just say?”

Elena, unbothered, delivered her words tly. “Get real, Ste. Trying to trash me won’t win Wesley over. With so much spare time, maybe you should make an appointment with a specialist to have your brain checked.”

Ste hissed, “Who exactly are you calling foolish? I watched you climb out of a man’s car myself, and you still want to deny it?”

Elena’s unshakable confidence grated on Ste’s nerves more with every second. To think a hick like her—favored by fate—had turned out to be part of the wealthy Harper family and actually believed she belonged among real society. Not only was Elena shamelessly chasing after Wesley, but she also seemed blind to her own limits.

As far as Ste was concerned, the Harper legacy didn’t amount to much, and Elena didn’t even deserve toce her shoes.

A softugh slipped from Elena. “I didn’t deny I stepped out of the car.”
